About MainWP Team Control Extension
Handing the keys to every client to the whole team works until someone leaves
When an agency grows, access to client sites is often shared out by habit: one shared admin password, a user with more permissions than needed "so we don't have to ask every time". With three people on the team, it goes fine. It stops going fine when someone new joins, when an outside collaborator was only meant to touch one site, or when someone leaves and nobody remembers what they could see.
MainWP Team Control Extension adds a team layer to your MainWP Dashboard: you create users, give them their own roles and decide what each one can see and do.
Custom roles instead of basic roles
Standard user roles often fall short in an agency: a developer, a support person and a project manager don't need the same things. With this extension you create your own roles and set specific privileges for them in a few clicks, so every profile on your team gets the access its job requires and nothing more.
That way you protect your clients' data without slowing down the people who do have to work on it.
Each person sees only the sites, features and extensions that are theirs
Control doesn't stop at the role. You can delegate access at three different levels:
- Specific child sites: a user only sees the sites you assign, not your whole portfolio.
- Dashboard features: you decide which parts of the panel they can use.
- MainWP Extensions: you can delegate access to specific extensions.
It's like a key that opens only the doors you choose. If a freelancer joins to work on two sites, they have no reason to see the rest.
It only governs access from the MainWP Dashboard
This extension doesn't work on its own: it integrates directly with the MainWP Dashboard and needs no other plugins or additional APIs, but you do need that Dashboard set up. It hands out permissions inside it; everything else remains up to you.
- Already solved: custom roles, access by child site, access by Dashboard feature, access by extension and adding users with no cap.
- Up to you: deciding which permissions policy applies to each profile before creating the roles.
- Up to you: reviewing access when someone changes duties or leaves the team.
- Up to you: watching any access that exists outside the Dashboard, such as wp-admin passwords shared through other channels: Team Control doesn't manage them.
Adding people without hitting a limit
There is no cap on users: you can add as many as you need to your Dashboard. When someone new joins, you assign a role and privileges and that's it. The interface is simple and you don't need a technical profile to set up roles and permissions, so that task can fall to whoever manages the team and not only to whoever installed the system.
Frequently asked questions about MainWP Team Control Extension
Does it need other plugins or APIs?
No. It integrates directly with the MainWP Dashboard with no additional plugins or APIs.
Can I limit a user to certain sites?
Yes. You assign each user the specific child sites they can access, and only those appear for them.
Is there a maximum number of users?
There is no limit: you create as many users as your team needs in the Dashboard.
Can I use it without the MainWP Dashboard?
No. It is an extension of the Dashboard and works inside it.
