When you look after many clients' websites, security rarely fails for lack of tools: it fails because logging into each site's Wordfence panel, one by one, is a chore that gets postponed until a client calls in alarm. The site you haven't checked in weeks is usually the one that gives you the scare.
MainWP Wordfence Extension moves that work to your MainWP Dashboard: you scan, watch traffic and adjust Wordfence on all your child sites from a single place. It doesn't replace Wordfence, it manages it remotely.
A Monday morning with MainWP Wordfence Extension
This is what real use looks like in an agency, step by step:
- Prepare the sites. Wordfence must be installed and activated on every child site, and you need your MainWP Dashboard. The extension has no scanner or firewall of its own: if a site doesn't have Wordfence, there is nothing to control.
- Schedule scans. You choose the frequency: daily, weekly or monthly. Checking no longer depends on you remembering.
- Launch a scan with one click. If you've touched several sites or a client suspects something, you scan all child sites at once, without opening each admin area.
- Read the results in your panel. You see each site's findings in the Dashboard and decide which one to handle first.
- Watch live traffic. If a site looks off, you check which visitors and crawlers are moving through it at that moment.
- Block or allow. From the same panel you block or unblock users and crawlers.
Note the scope: the extension centralizes monitoring and settings. The judgment on what to do with each finding is still yours.
A shared configuration and per-client exceptions
Wordfence settings for the whole network are controlled from one point, which keeps each site from ending up with a different configuration through sheer inertia.
But not every client needs the same thing. You can override the general settings and customize Wordfence options for a specific child site, so a sensitive website gets its own rules without touching the rest.

Does it work if Wordfence isn't on the child sites?
No. Wordfence must be installed and activated on every child site, because the extension works alongside it.
Does it work without a MainWP Dashboard?
No. It is a MainWP extension and everything is managed from its Dashboard.
Can I configure one site differently from the rest?
Yes. You override the general settings and customize Wordfence on that site only.
