About MainWP WP Compress Extension
Many sites and nobody checks the weight of the photos
Optimizing images site by site is one of those tasks nobody does until a client complains that their website is slow. When you manage many sites with MainWP, installing a compression plugin, logging into each dashboard and connecting it to its account eats up a whole afternoon.
In an agency, image weight grows silently: the client uploads phone photos without resizing them and you inherit the problem. On top of that, image optimization almost never has its own budget, so either you absorb it or it doesn't get done.
What MainWP WP Compress Extension does from your dashboard
It's an extension that adds bulk management of WP Compress to MainWP. With it you can:
- Install and activate WP Compress on all child sites at once, without opening each one.
- Connect each site to the WP Compress cloud and portal with one click.
- Assign monthly quotas to each site.
- Add starter credits so newly connected sites can start working.
Bulk settings and bulk compression are not here yet
Today the extension is limited to installation, connection and quota allocation. Bulk settings configuration, bulk compression, autopilot activation and integration with MainWP reports are announced as future features. If you need to adjust how compression behaves, you'll have to do it in WP Compress.
Nor does it replace WP Compress: it's a bridge. The extension is developed by the WP Compress team, not by MainWP.
Common questions before connecting WP Compress to your sites
Does it work without MainWP? No. It's an extension for the MainWP Dashboard and works on the child sites you already have connected.
Can I see the results in MainWP reports? Not yet: that integration is announced as a future feature.
Is it included in MainWP Pro plans? No. It's a third-party extension and Pro plans don't include this kind of extension.
What kind of agency gets the most out of it
If you manage only a few sites, installing WP Compress by hand may cost you the same. And if what you want is to launch bulk compression or settings templates for your whole portfolio, those features aren't available here yet.
Monthly quotas and starter credits: decide them before connecting the sites
Connecting is quick, but it's worth being clear on the split before you press the button. A site with heavy editorial traffic doesn't need the same quota as a corporate website that gets updated twice a year.
- Sort your sites by how often they upload images.
- Assign monthly quotas suited to each group and review them over time.
- Use the starter credits for newly connected sites.
- Check each site's configuration in WP Compress, because from MainWP it isn't applied in bulk yet.
