About Marity – Laboratory and Science Research Theme

A research centre's website is almost never read by a customer

Whoever commissions a research centre's website usually thinks about explaining what the centre does. But many of the people arriving half know that already and come for something else: a doctoral student looking for a place, a partner checking who they are signing with, someone deciding whether to fund it. A research centre does not have an audience of customers, it has several audiences who buy nothing, and each one looks at a different page.

Marity, by Qode Interactive and published on ThemeForest by Select-Themes, is laid out that way: its main home page spreads the weight across services, scientists, projects, internships, careers and investors.

Five home pages and the parts of a research centre

  • Five predesigned home pages plus a landing page, including Laboratory Home, Space Exploration, Biological Research and Research Center.
  • Demo import in one click.
  • Inner pages for about, services, team, careers, charts, pricing, contact and FAQ.
  • Elements for scientific content: charts, team lists, portfolio, testimonials and progress bars.
  • Portfolio in gallery, masonry, justified gallery and slider.
  • Seven header types and a customizable mega menu.
  • Child theme and Slider Revolution included.

Which page each visitor expects

Job seekers look at internships and careers, and the team pages tell them who they would work with. Profiles with job titles, like those in the demo, do that work.

Those weighing a partnership or funding look at concrete projects. A project with its own page, like those in the portfolio, shows them concrete work. Charts help when there are real figures to show.

Those following the centre's work come in through the news, in video, audio, gallery or quote formats. Before choosing a home page, list these audiences and check that each one has its page.

No publications, no appointments and no patient results

Its features include no dedicated section for scientific publications: in the demo, articles go through the blog and news. If your centre is measured by what it publishes, you will have to solve that listing yourself.

Nor do its features include bookings or appointments: the working hours element is for displaying hours. And it is a theme, not a laboratory system: its features include no sample management or results delivery, so a clinical lab will need that piece separately. The demo shop needs WooCommerce, and the home pages are layout: the filler text and sample projects have to be replaced.

Qode Framework, Marity Core and the install order

It is compatible with WordPress 6.5 to 7.0, WooCommerce 9 and 10, Elementor, WPBakery Page Builder and WPML. It needs two plugins, Qode Framework and Marity Core, without which the theme does not work properly. The system info panel marks in red whatever falls short. Follow this order:

  1. Install and activate the theme, then Qode Framework and Marity Core.
  2. If you want a shop or the demo forms, install WooCommerce and Contact Form 7 before importing.
  3. Import a demo from the Marity dashboard, with its attachments if you want them.
  4. If the import leaves a white screen, raise the maximum execution time to 120 seconds.

Three science and analysis themes to compare with Marity

In the same category are NovaLab, by BoldThemes, with four home pages and a cost calculator, and Albertino, by AncoraThemes, with three science and research home pages and Elementor.

If your centre runs analyses for third parties more than research, also look at Medico. Compare in their demos how much space they give to projects and team.
