About MEC Advanced Map Addon
When the calendar answers when, but your audience asks where
A list of events sorted by date is of little use if the reader decides by place: whether it is nearby, in another city or whether something else is happening in the same area. Many organizers find out late that location matters more than the day, and that a long list makes it hard to compare venues. MEC Advanced Map Addon adds to Modern Events Calendar a map view with filters and events shown next to it, and you set it up with a shortcode.
Three ways to get the most out of MEC Advanced Map Addon depending on how you work
If you run events at several venues
The map shows at a glance where your schedule is concentrated. The next and previous buttons display events based on their geographic coordinates, and the filters search across all address fields. You can split map shortcodes with optional filters and place them side by side.
If you receive events from third parties through the frontend
You can ask for exact addresses in the frontend submission form (FES).
If you do not want to depend on Google Maps
The addon lets you use OpenStreetMap instead of Google Maps. If you prefer to stay with Google, you can also open the list of events at a location directly on its map website from the view.
Side style, marker clustering and zoom to your liking
- Side style: a second map style in which the filters and events sit next to the map instead of below it.
- Marker clustering: when there are many events in one area, the markers are grouped and the map does not fill up with overlapping points.
- Default location: you choose where the map starts by dragging it to the point you want.
- Zoom level: you set it for single event maps and for other shortcodes. You can also zoom in with the mouse wheel.
- Additional locations: on an event page you can show other places linked to it.
It is worth testing in the demo how the side style behaves on small screens.
Common questions before installing MEC Advanced Map Addon
Can I use OpenStreetMap instead of Google Maps? Yes, the addon allows it, with no limit.
Can I filter by street or region? Yes, the search works across all address fields, which gives more precise filters.
Can an event have more than one location? You can show additional locations on the single event page.
Can users enter the address when submitting an event? Yes, the frontend FES form supports address fields.
It needs MEC Pro to work
It is not a standalone plugin: it is an add-on for Modern Events Calendar and requires MEC Pro. Without that base you have no calendar to build the map on. Nor does it replace a ticketing or booking system: it focuses on locating and filtering events.
