About MEC Seat Addon

Selling tickets without assigned seats stops working once the venue has a floor plan

A theater, a concert hall or a gala dinner with tables can't be sold as "general admission x 200". If buyers don't know where they will sit, they write to ask, and if two people end up in the same chair, the argument happens at the door. MEC Seat Addon is made for anyone organizing events with ordered seating who needs every seat to have an owner before the event starts.

A free-form canvas to draw the venue as it really is

Most real venues aren't a perfect grid: there are curved boxes, sloped stands, aisles that cut through rows. That is why MEC Seat Addon uses a canvas-based designer where you drag seats wherever you want, rotating and resizing them. You're not tied to rows and columns.

  • Status per seat: bookable, non-bookable or hidden. Useful for blocking seats with a poor view or keeping some for the organizers.
  • Accessible spots: you can mark seats for people with reduced mobility on the map.
  • Table generator: creates rectangular or round tables with the number of chairs you choose, already drawn with their seats around them.
  • Decoration: text, rectangles, ellipses, lines and your own SVG shapes to mark the stage, VIP area, exits or any reference the audience needs.

Each seat, row or table with its own ticket and price

You assign MEC ticket types to a single seat, a selected group or a whole table, and the map color changes instantly so you can see at a glance which zone costs what. That way you can charge more for the front rows and less for the sides without creating separate events.

What it needs to work

It isn't a standalone plugin: it is an add-on for Modern Events Calendar and requires MEC Pro. Ticket types and bookings are managed by the MEC system, so without it there is nothing for it to build on. Also, the plan organizes seats and prices, but what happens with payment or attendee data depends on MEC's booking settings.

What the buyer sees when booking

During checkout an interactive map is displayed. When the cursor hovers over a seat, its label, ticket type and price appear. Seats are held temporarily while the person completes the booking, so nobody can buy the same spot at the same time. Booked seats for each date of the event are recorded and integrated with MEC's booking reports, so you have the list of who occupies what.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a different plan for each event?

Yes. Each event supports its own layout, and you can also copy the complete map from another event (with decorations and assigned tickets) from the builder itself.

Does it work without Modern Events Calendar Pro?

No. It requires MEC Pro, because it relies on its tickets and booking system.

What if I already used the classic grid of rows and columns?

It includes a migration tool that converts those layouts to the new canvas format, merges seats already sold and saves a copy of the previous maps before overwriting them.

Can I hide seats I don't want to sell?

Yes, you can leave them as non-bookable or hide them on the map altogether.

The old map isn't lost on migration, but test first

If you already sell with classic plans, run the migration on a test event first: check that sold seats are still marked as taken and that tickets keep their price. For a new event, the easiest order is to draw the venue, assign ticket types by zone and review how the map looks on the public page before opening sales. If you reuse the same venue often, build a base plan and copy it from event to event.
