About Medley – WordPress theme like Medium with EDD shop
You have articles that work and something to sell (an ebook, some prints, a course), but usually the blog ends up in one corner and the shop in another, with two designs that look nothing alike and readers who never move from one to the other. Medley tries to solve exactly that: what you write and what you sell live on the same site.
People who publish well often sell badly, and the other way around
Creators tend to master only one half: they write very well but the shop feels like an add-on, or they have a product but nobody finds it because there is no content around it. Medley starts from a simple idea: content is the shop window. It is a magazine-style theme, with tidy content areas and careful typography, designed so readers arrive through an article and find the product in the same design, without switching worlds.
From the first article to the first sale with Medley
Imagine you are an illustrator who wants to sell digital prints. This is the path:
- Step 1, publish: you write your posts with the magazine design. If more people contribute, the theme supports multiple authors with a byline and a dedicated page for each.
- Step 2, highlight what works: there are trending content sections to feature your most popular articles so readers keep exploring instead of leaving.
- Step 3, show the product: the theme is compatible with Easy Digital Downloads, with showcase areas, pricing and purchase for ebooks, courses, artwork and other digital downloads.
- Step 4, build trust: social proof notifications show recent purchases. Careful: they only make sense if you already have real sales; with an empty shop they add nothing.
The theme provides the design and presentation. Managing the shop (products, payments, downloadable files) depends on Easy Digital Downloads, a separate plugin that you will have to install and set up.
Questions you will ask before installing it
Does it work for selling physical products?
It is not designed for that. Its focus is digital downloads: ebooks, courses, artwork and similar. If you need shipping and inventory, look for another solution.
Is it only for shops?
No. It also fits blogs, business sites and portfolios, and it is a versatile theme. Still, it makes the most sense when you combine content and selling.
Can I customize it?
Yes: layouts, colors and typography can be adjusted from the WordPress options. If you want it to look identical to the demo, import the demo content and start from there.
Is it suitable for several people writing?
Yes, it includes multi-author support with attribution and author pages.
A Medium-style design that does not replace your strategy
That helps your content read well, but it does not build an audience or write for you. If you publish rarely, the trending area and the authors will look empty and the theme will shine less than in the demo.
Check in the demo how a downloadable product page looks and how it fits with your images before deciding. If your catalog is large, with many categories and filters, consider whether the presentation is enough for you.
Who Medley makes sense for
- Writers and artists who want to sell digital products alongside their content.
- Online publications looking to monetize with downloads.
- Creators of courses, ebooks or prints.
- Creative agencies that showcase their work and offer services or products.
If your goal is to build a physical catalog or a shop with many variants, it is not the right theme. If yours is telling and selling what you create without depending on third-party platforms, it is a coherent foundation.
