About Meta Box User Profile

For anyone who doesn't want users wandering into the WordPress dashboard

When someone registers on your site and wants to change their phone number or photo, WordPress sends them to the admin area: a screen built for whoever manages the site, not for a customer, a student or a member. If your business relies on that person coming back and keeping their data up to date, that screen is a poor first impression. Meta Box User Profile moves those forms to the frontend, inside your own pages.

It suits you if you already work (or plan to work) with Meta Box and need registration, login and profile editing with your own fields. It doesn't suit you if you want something that works on its own: it is an extension of the Meta Box plugin and can't be installed without it. Nor is it a full membership system: it covers three types of form (login, sign-up and profile editing) and nothing more.

Three shortcodes, as many forms as you need

The plugin provides one shortcode for each type: login, registration and profile editing. Inside each one you can include the custom fields you have created with Meta Box, so there is no cap on the number of forms or on the fields in each form.

  • Two different login forms: one for a sidebar widget and another for the header.
  • Two editing forms: one for general details and another for bank details, for example.
  • Free placement: inside page content, in a text widget or from a PHP function with do_shortcode.

User fields that are edited on the frontend, not only in the admin area

Meta Box User Profile includes the MB User Meta extension, which adds custom fields to the user profile. The difference is that MB User Meta only works in the admin area, whereas here those same fields are filled in from the frontend. If you use Meta Box User Profile you don't need to install MB User Meta separately.

All Meta Box field types are supported, not just the basic ones: wysiwyg editor, date and time picker, slider or file upload. Field cloning works too, so you can build a long, complex form if your case calls for it.

Meta Box User Profile without code: the visual builder is separate

To create the form without touching code, the route is the Meta Box Builder extension: you add fields from Meta Boxes → Add New and, in the settings tab, enable the option to show the meta box for users. Note that the builder is a different extension.

One more thing to know before you start: this extension takes care of the forms. The visual design of the profile page or of a custom avatar is something you solve around it, with your theme or page builder.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work without the Meta Box plugin?

No. It is an extension and needs Meta Box installed.

Can I have several different registration or editing forms?

Yes. There is no limit on forms or fields, and each shortcode can carry different fields.

Do I also need to install MB User Meta?

No, it is already included in Meta Box User Profile.

Can I create the form without programming?

Yes, with Meta Box Builder, which is a separate extension.

Is it for letting users publish posts?

No. That is what MB Frontend Submission is for; this plugin works with the user profile.
