About Meth – A Minimal One Page Portfolio Theme
Meth: your portfolio is read in the order you decide
People who visit you to hire you rarely compare in depth: they scroll, look for a sign that you can do what they need and, if they find it, look for a way to write to you. A portfolio with good work that is poorly ordered loses that moment. Meth is built for exactly that: a single-page home where each block is a widget you can move around until the story tells itself.
It also works as a multi-page theme, so you can start with a home page and add inner pages when you need them. Its interface is clean, with careful typography, and leaves all the attention on your projects.
Building the Meth home page, block by block
This is the typical walkthrough for a freelancer or a small studio, and what each step solves:
- Opening. You set a header image or a video (it supports .mp4 and YouTube links) and add a title and a description over it, with HTML if you need it. It answers the visitor's first question: what do you do. The Intro widget also adds an optional parallax effect.
- Work. The Portfolio widget shows your projects, and each one has several options of its own so it is presented in context, whether you use Meth as a single page or build a full site.
- Arguments. Features is for your strengths, Team for the people and Testimonials for what your clients say. If you work alone, skip Team; if you do not have reviews yet, leave Testimonials out instead of filling it with made-up text.
- Contact. A widget with a message and a form closes the page. Check in the demo whether its fields cover what you need before relying on it.
- Blog and free content. Blog shows your latest posts. Static content pulls the content of a page you already have into the home page, also with optional parallax: handy for an "about me" you want to edit as a normal page.
One important limit: Meth is not a page builder. You do not drag elements inside each section: you fill in the settings of each widget and reorder the blocks. If you want free columns or custom layouts, it is not the right tool.
One page or several? And other questions about Meth
Can I use it as a site with inner pages?
Yes. You can use it as a one-page theme or as a full site with as many pages as you want, and create as many widgetized pages as you need.
Can it be translated?
It includes .po/.mo files for translation and is compatible with WPML, so it works for a portfolio in several languages.
What about extra shortcodes, widgets and content types?
It is compatible with StagTools (free), which adds shortcodes, widgets and content types to the theme. It is also compatible with Stag Custom Sidebars and includes FontAwesome icon integration.
Can I customize it with code?
It is child theme ready and includes the Sass source files and the Compass configuration, useful if you have someone who codes.
Few design options in Meth, on purpose
The theme makes the styling decisions for you and leaves only a handful of options in the customizer: you can change the typography with Google Web Fonts and the accent color with a color picker. That keeps the site consistent and stops you from tweaking fonts and colors instead of uploading work.
The trade-off is clear: if your brand demands an identity very different from the theme's minimalist look, you will need a child theme and code. The design is responsive from head to footer, so your portfolio also looks good on mobile, which is where many clients will open it for the first time.
