About MonsterInsights EU Compliance Addon

Google Analytics does not come ready for privacy regulations

Installing a cookie banner and calling it done is what most people do. The problem is that Google Analytics, as it ships, collects more data than many privacy regulations allow, and almost nobody knows which settings to change. This MonsterInsights addon applies those changes for you, without writing code.

Privacy Guard strips personal data before it leaves your site

URLs sometimes carry email addresses, names or user IDs: a newsletter link, a form parameter, an account page. If that reaches Analytics, you have personal data where it should not be. Privacy Guard detects that information in every hit and removes it before it leaves your site, with no manual checks.

It makes most sense if your site has user-generated content, dynamic URLs or logged-in visitors.

MonsterInsights EU Compliance Addon waits for consent

Getting the analytics plugin and the cookie plugin to understand each other usually requires custom code. Here the integration is already built for Cookiebot, Cookie Notice, CookieYes and Complianz: tracking does not start until the visitor accepts.

In addition, the European Economic Area consent mode adjusts how data is collected according to each visitor's status. If you already use your own consent platform, the addon works with the native opt-out APIs of Google Analytics. And for anyone who wants to withdraw consent, you can place your own opt-out link anywhere on the site, or use the one from your cookie plugin.

The cookie notice comes from another plugin

  • The addon already handles: IP anonymization on all hits (including eCommerce and forms), disabling demographics reports, user ID and author tracking, Privacy Guard and the opt-out link.
  • You cover with another plugin: the cookie notice the visitor sees and its accept or reject button. You need one of the four compatible plugins or your own platform.
  • You or a professional cover: the privacy policy, the rest of the scripts and services on your site, and the review of your case with a lawyer.

The addon is a MonsterInsights complement and only deals with the Google Analytics side. No plugin can guarantee 100% legal compliance, because it depends on your whole site and your jurisdiction.

Separate settings for a store, a blog or a membership site

A WooCommerce store does not have the same needs as a blog or a lead generation page. That is why you can turn each setting on or off individually:

  • IP anonymization
  • Demographics reports
  • User ID tracking
  • Author tracking
  • ga() compatibility mode

Despite the name, the changes it automates are relevant to GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), PECR (UK), PIPEDA (Canada) and other similar frameworks.

Frequently asked questions about MonsterInsights EU Compliance Addon

Will my site be 100% GDPR compliant?

No. It covers the analytics side, but your privacy policy, your other services and your legal situation remain your responsibility. Consult a lawyer.

Is Google Analytics GDPR compliant by default?

No. It needs additional configuration, and the addon automates those changes.

Which cookie plugins are compatible?

Cookiebot, Cookie Notice, CookieYes and Complianz, with automatic integration and no code.

Do I need to enable Privacy Guard?

It is recommended if your site has user content, dynamic URLs or registered user activity.
