About myCred Level Cred
When a points system pays everyone the same, the veteran who has been in your community for years earns as much as the newcomer, and the incentive to advance disappears. myCred Level Cred is a myCred add-on that lets the same hook (the action that awards or deducts points) pay different amounts depending on who performs it.
A full walkthrough: from new user to standout member
Imagine a community that gives points for commenting, posting or completing actions. Here is how Level Cred would apply, step by step:
- Step 1, you choose the reference. On each hook you decide whether the amount depends on user role, rank or badge level. Only one of the three is used at a time, so it is worth deciding beforehand which one fits the way you organize your users.
- Step 2, you set the amount for each level. The new user gets one figure, and someone who has moved up a rank or holds a higher badge gets another. You decide whether advancing is rewarded with more points for the same action.
- Step 3, you handle multiple roles. If a user has several roles, you can set priorities so the system knows which one counts when awarding points and there is no ambiguity.
- Step 4, the user sees the benefit of moving up. Since each level pays differently, climbing a rank stops being just a label and has a real effect on the points earned.
Why level matters more than the volume of points
In a loyalty program, handing out points is easy; the hard part is making people want to keep advancing. If progression changes nothing about what the user receives, ranks and badges become decorative. With Level Cred, moving up changes how much each action is worth, which gives a concrete reason to climb.
It needs myCred and its ranks or badges already set up
Level Cred does not work on its own: it is an add-on that relies on myCred. To use ranks or badge levels, those systems must be configured first, because the add-on only takes them as a reference.
Frequently asked questions about myCred Level Cred
Can I combine roles, ranks and badges on the same hook?
No. One reference is chosen at a time: roles, ranks or badge levels.
What happens if a user has several roles?
You can set priorities for multiple roles and define which one takes precedence when awarding points.
Does it work on multisite?
Yes, it can be used on a single site or on a multisite installation.
Does it replace myCred?
No, it is an add-on and needs myCred to work.
When it makes sense to install myCred Level Cred
It will suit you if you already run a points program with different types of users and want moving up a level to have its own reward. If all your users behave the same way and a single amount per action is enough, you do not need it.
