About myCred Nominations
The person who helps most in your community is rarely the one who posts most
In a community with points, ranks and badges, the system rewards what can be measured: posts, comments, purchases. What slips past you is the person who solves doubts kindly or welcomes newcomers with patience. The other members do notice, and myCred Nominations gives them a way to say so: nominating another user for an achievement, points, a rank or another reward.
It changes who does the pointing. It is no longer just you, watching activity counters: the community itself proposes, and you can keep the final say from the admin panel.
Nomination forms, review and majority voting in myCred Nominations
Everything revolves around nomination forms that you place wherever you want. These are the pieces that matter:
- Achievements or ranks as the target: a nomination can unlock the achievement or rank you choose.
- Explanation field: the person nominating can add why they are doing it, and that text works as a comment or feedback.
- Approval screen: each nomination is approved or rejected from the admin area.
- Email notice: new nominations reach the administrator's inbox.
- Three ways to show the form: shortcode, block or sidebar widget.
You can also enable automatic nomination: users can nominate any member and, with a majority of votes, the nomination goes through. Think it over before turning it on, because in small communities the usual friends can easily gather that majority, and manual review is precisely the brake against that.
It is a myCred add-on: it does not work on its own, it needs the base plugin for points, ranks and achievements. Nor does it replace the rules that give points for activity; it only handles nominations between members. It can be used on a single site or on a multisite installation.
Common questions before setting up nominations
Does it work without myCred?
No. It is an addon, so the base plugin must be installed for the achievements, ranks and points to be granted to exist.
Can I review a nomination before anyone receives anything?
Yes, the approve or reject screen is there for that. If you enable automatic nomination, check in the demo how it fits the way you work.
Where do I put the form?
With a shortcode on any page or post, with the block in the editor or with the widget in the sidebar.
Is it only for achievements, or for points too?
Nominations can target achievements, points, ranks and other rewards. Check in the demo which options the form offers for each type.
Start with one form and one achievement
The sensible move is to launch a single nomination with a clear target, for example an achievement recognizing help between members. Keep the explanation field visible: the reasons users write will quickly show you whether people nominate with judgment or out of obligation.
Meanwhile, approve by hand and keep an eye on the notice email. Once you see nominations arriving with real reasons, decide whether to open more forms, put them in the sidebar or try majority voting. Do it the other way round and you will end up with ranks handed out and nobody knowing why.
