About myCred Rest API
When points live in WordPress but your app lives elsewhere
Setting up a points program in WordPress is easy until someone asks to see it in a mobile app, in a dashboard built with React or in another system that is not WordPress. Then the points stay locked inside the site and you have to write endpoints by hand. myCred Rest API is a myCred add-on that opens that data to other technologies through REST routes.
What you can do from outside WordPress with myCred Rest API
- Points: with the plugin's routes you can award points, revoke them or retrieve them for any user.
- Badges: you can also award, revoke and retrieve them. You can also request the list of available badges with their level and requirements.
- Ranks: it lets you retrieve ranks and what is needed to reach them.
- Registered references: you can get all the references that exist in myCred.
It works on single-site and multisite installations, and it is independent of the platform you make the calls from.
Who uses it and what for
If you develop a mobile app or a separate web application
This is the main case. You can integrate it with your Angular, React, Ruby or other front end.
If you are an agency and a client wants to connect loyalty to another system
You need to know how to work with API requests.
If you just want to show points on your own WordPress site
You probably do not need it. This add-on makes sense when whatever consumes the data is outside.
It needs myCred installed and development skills
It is an add-on: it does not work alone, but on top of myCred, which is what manages points, badges and ranks. It does not come with a visual interface or a ready-made app either. It delivers routes so that a developer can build the visible part. If you have nobody who writes code, it will not be of much use.
Nor does it create the program's rules: the points, badges and ranks you query must be configured in myCred beforehand.
