About Newsletter Import

If you come from another email tool with your list in hand

Switching email platforms usually gets stuck on the same thing: you have hundreds or thousands of subscribers in one place and want them in another, without retyping them by hand or losing anyone along the way. Newsletter Import is an add-on built for that move: bringing an existing subscriber list into the Newsletter plugin for WordPress.

It suits you if you already use Newsletter (or are about to install it) and your list lives elsewhere. It does not suit you if you have no subscribers yet, because it does not generate contacts, or if you want a tool for sending campaigns: it is an add-on that does not work on its own and depends on Newsletter being installed and active. Nor does it replace subscription forms, which are what grow your list from now on.

What Newsletter Import does for your list

Its job is to load contacts you already have into Newsletter so you can start working with them from WordPress.

An imported list is not a list with permission

Your list is worth as much as the consent behind each address, not the number of rows. If you import contacts who never agreed to receive your emails, it is easy to end up with spam complaints and delivery problems. Importing does not turn anyone into a consenting subscriber, and the plugin cannot guarantee privacy-law compliance: that depends on how you obtained each contact.

Before importing with Newsletter Import, clean your list

A migration is the best moment to tidy up. A few minutes of review beforehand saves you months of poor sending reputation:

  • Remove addresses you know bounce or have not opened anything in years.
  • Drop contacts who unsubscribed in the previous tool.
  • Decide how you will group subscribers in Newsletter, so you do not mix different audiences in a single list.
  • Make a copy of the original list before touching anything.

Check in the demo or on a test installation with a few contacts how the imported information looks before loading the whole list.

Frequently asked questions about Newsletter Import

Does it work without the Newsletter plugin?

No. It is an add-on for Newsletter and needs that plugin installed on your WordPress.

Can it send emails?

No. It only helps bring in subscribers. Campaigns, forms and reports depend on Newsletter.

Can I import a list I bought or got from third parties?

It is not advisable. If those people did not give you permission, your emails may be flagged as spam and harm the delivery of all your messages.

Should I test with a few contacts first?

Yes. Importing a small group lets you see how the data is stored before moving the whole list.
