About Ninja Forms Front-End Posting

When your contributors shouldn't set foot in the WordPress dashboard

Accepting articles, ads or listings from third parties usually ends in one of two places: an inbox full of pasted texts that you then copy by hand, or users with panel access who see more than they should. Ninja Forms Front-End Posting solves that: it adds to any Ninja Forms form an action that creates real WordPress content, and the person submitting never sees the dashboard or the editor.

The underlying idea: whoever receives contributions doesn't have a reception problem, they have a review problem. The hard part isn't getting people to submit, it's deciding what goes live and when.

What the Create Post action does and where it falls short

You add the Create Post action to a form and map fields to the title, content and excerpt. Each submission generates a post with that data. What you can control:

  • Publishing status: draft, pending review, private or published. If you need approval, send everything to draft or pending and review it with the standard WordPress tools.
  • Content type: posts, pages and any registered custom post type, whether it comes from your theme or another plugin.
  • Categories and tags: you can set defaults the user never sees, or let them choose with a terms field. Custom taxonomies are supported too.
  • Custom post meta: you enter the meta key manually and assign the field value with the merge tag picker. It works for price, location or contact details in directories and classifieds.
  • Author: the logged-in user or any registered user you choose.

What to keep in mind

It is a Ninja Forms extension: it needs the base plugin and doesn't work on its own. A rich text editor for the content isn't built in as such; it is approached with the builder's own HTML field. To attach images or documents you need to combine it with the Ninja Forms file uploads add-on. And if you want to restrict who can submit, you'll need a separate membership plugin.

Frequently asked questions before you decide

Do contributors need an account?

No. They submit from a form on the public side. If you want the submission to appear under their author profile, they do need to be registered and logged in.

Can I review before anything is published?

Yes. Set the status to Pending Review and each submission lands in the WordPress queue, visible to editors and administrators. If you add an email notification action, your team gets an alert with every new submission.

Is it suitable for a directory or classifieds?

Yes, if you use a custom post type and map fields to meta. However, the plugin creates the content; how it is displayed on the site depends on your theme or another plugin.

Can fields be shown depending on the content type?

Yes, with the conditional logic of the Ninja Forms builder.

Cases where it fits well

It works well for receiving guest posts instead of emails, for a community blog with registered authors, for event listings that must go through review before appearing on a calendar, and for job offers or ads on a single custom post type. In all of them the key is the same: a structured form going in and a review queue coming out.

Form first, action second

To get started, create the form with the fields you want to receive and then add the Create Post action. Decide the default status from the start: if in doubt, begin with Pending Review. Also define the target content type and the meta keys before mapping fields, because each piece of structured data needs its own key. Make a test submission and check in the dashboard how the title, content, taxonomy and author arrive.
