About OceanWP Extra Plugin
A powerful theme that stays half-finished without its companion plugin
You install OceanWP, open the Customizer and things are missing: there are no demos to import, none of the per-page settings you expected, and the paid extensions have nowhere to be activated. Most of the time the cause is this plugin, which is the theme's companion.
People who build sites with OceanWP usually work for clients or maintain their own website, and what eats the most time is not the initial design but repeating settings: which layout each page uses, which sidebar, whether the title shows. OceanWP Extra Plugin moves that repetition into a per-page panel and a general theme panel.
What OceanWP Extra Plugin adds to the theme and where it stops
Its features fall into three blocks:
- Meta boxes on every page and post: you change the layout, choose the sidebar, turn the top and bottom margins on or off, show or hide the title, set a custom title, add a subheading and choose the title style.
- Options per post format: there are specific settings for the different formats, for example adding a gallery of images in the gallery format.
- Theme panel: you enable or disable Customizer panels, activate the Pro extension licenses, enable or disable theme scripts and styles, install demos and import or export Customizer settings.
What it does not do on its own
It needs the OceanWP theme to be active: it is an add-on, not a standalone theme. It does not include the Pro extensions either; it only gives you the place to activate their licenses, so if you want those features you will need to get them separately. And the demos it installs are the free ones.

Does it work with another theme?
It makes no sense to: its options rely on the OceanWP theme.
Can I change the layout on just one page?
Yes, from the meta box of that page or post, without touching the rest of the site.
Can I use it to copy my design to another website?
You can export and import Customizer settings, which is useful for carrying your setup over to another OceanWP installation.
Can I remove scripts I don't use?
The theme panel lets you enable or disable theme scripts and styles, and also Customizer panels, to keep things cleaner.
Demos are installed from the theme panel
To start a site with a ready-made design, go to the theme panel and pick a free demo. Before importing, keep in mind that the sample content will end up on your site: it is better to do it on a fresh installation than on a site with your own content.
After importing, check in the pages' meta box which layout, title and sidebar were set, and adjust any that don't suit you. If you work for clients, export the Customizer settings when you finish: it works as a backup for your next project.
