About OceanWP Portfolio

OceanWP Portfolio: the portfolio that wins by what you leave out

Almost every portfolio fails through excess: twenty mixed projects, the best ones buried among the average ones, and a visitor who leaves without knowing what to hire you for. Whoever needs this extension (a photographer, design studio, architect or freelancer) rarely has too little work to show; what they lack is a visible selection criterion.

OceanWP Portfolio displays your projects on a template page or anywhere else through a shortcode. What matters is not that it puts them in a grid, but that it lets you decide what appears, in what order and under which label.

Filters, authors and categories: a different way in for each client

Each type of client is looking for something different: someone who wants a wedding doesn't need to see your branding work. The filter bar solves that, and you can show or hide it as you see fit.

  • The filter bar can be positioned and styled, with control over its position and its typography.
  • Items can be displayed by author, categories or tags, sorted your way, and whole categories can be excluded (useful for removing from the front page work that no longer represents you).
  • Each item accepts settings for margin, padding, color, overlay color and typography.

You can also set your own image width and height, which helps keep the grid uniform.

PhotoSwipe lightbox or project page: you choose what a click does

Clicking a thumbnail can open the project page or an enlarged image in a lightbox. The extension uses PhotoSwipe, a lightbox script built with photography in mind, and you can disable the link icon or the lightbox icon if one is redundant. The lightbox texts can be translated.

If a project lives outside your site (for example, a case published elsewhere), each item accepts an external URL and the target it opens with. Projects include SEO markup.

Built for the OceanWP theme, and it won't write your case studies

It is an OceanWP extension: the external URL field lives in the OceanWP settings of each item, so it is designed for that theme. Before installing it, review what falls to you:

  • Already solved: displaying projects with a page template or shortcode.
  • Already solved: filters, ordering, category exclusion and the style of each thumbnail.
  • You cover it: the text, figures and context of each project; the extension displays them, it doesn't write them.
  • You cover it: contact form, quotes or bookings, which require another plugin.

Frequently asked questions about OceanWP Portfolio

Can I display the portfolio on any page?

Yes: with a shortcode wherever you choose, or with a page template.

Can the filter bar be hidden?

Yes, you can show or hide it. If you show it, you control its position, style and typography.

Does it work for photographers?

It uses PhotoSwipe, a lightbox built with photography in mind, and you decide whether a click opens the enlarged image or the project.

How do I take a project off the front page without deleting it?

Put it in a category and exclude that category in that listing: it will still exist, but it won't appear there.
