About Ohio - Creative Portfolio & Agency WordPress Theme
A portfolio lives on what it shows, not on the theme
Building the website of a studio or a freelance practice usually goes wrong in one of two ways: a gorgeous template in the demo that falls flat with your photos, or a custom design that takes months and depends on a developer. Ohio is a multipurpose theme with a portfolio and agency profile and a page builder included, so you can build the site yourself without coding.
It helps to accept something before choosing: the demos of any portfolio theme shine because of their photography. Ohio provides the frame (grids, project pages, hover effects), but if your case studies have weak images, the frame only exposes them. Look at what material of your own you have before choosing a demo.
Portfolio in Ohio: grids, project pages and effects
Projects are managed with their own content type, with minimalist grids and several project page layouts. If none suits you, you can build the layout of each project with WPBakery.
- Hover effects: image scaling, color overlay, greyscale and image parallax.
- Pagination: classic links, AJAX lazy loading or a load more button, useful when your catalog of work grows.
- Categories: offset, boxed or overlay grid layouts.
For the studio blog there are gallery, image, video, audio and quote post formats.
Ohio with WPBakery or Elementor: pick one from the start
The theme works with both builders and offers its own collection of elements for each: headings, buttons, carousels, Google Maps, accordions, tabs, banners, pricing tables, processes, team, testimonials, client logos, counters, countdowns and progress bars, among others.
There is one practical difference: the list of elements for Elementor does not include the split section or the horizontal and vertical parallax, which do exist as WPBakery shortcodes. If they matter to you, start with WPBakery. And do not mix builders on the same site: it complicates maintenance.
Besides that, there are five menu types (hamburger, fullscreen, classic, sidebar and sidebar panel), more than 900 Google fonts and more than 12,000 Adobe Typekit fonts, a ready child theme and Figma source files to design on top of a demo before building.
Demo images and fonts are not included
Importing a demo with one click gives you the structure, not the visual content. This is how the work is split:
- Already solved: demo importer, mobile-friendly layouts, child theme, Font Awesome, Ionicons and Linea icons, and CSS3 animations.
- Already solved: WPBakery Page Builder and Slider Revolution come with the theme.
- You provide: the photos and fonts of the demos are for demonstration only. You need your own material.
- With another plugin: Elementor (if you prefer it to WPBakery), WooCommerce for the shop, Contact Form 7 for forms and Instagram Feed for the Instagram feed.
- With another plugin: WPML or Loco Translate if the site is multilingual. The theme supports PO translation.
- Requirement: WordPress.org on your own hosting, or WordPress.com with the Business plan. The other WordPress.com plans do not allow installing custom themes.
Shop and other uses: they fit, but the portfolio is the strong point
Ohio includes demos for a shop, blog, corporate site, one-page landing and gym. With WooCommerce installed it offers live search, product quick view, AJAX add to cart, save to collection and a lightbox gallery. It works for a small shop run by a creative studio, but if selling is your main business, compare demos before deciding.
Frequently asked questions before deciding
Do I have to buy WPBakery separately?

Can I use Ohio on WordPress.com?
Only with the Business plan. The Free, Personal and Premium plans do not allow custom themes.
Can I edit files without losing my changes?
Yes, it comes with a ready-to-use child theme that preserves your code changes.
Are the demo photos included?
No. The image and font credits of the demos are for demonstration only.
