About Paid Memberships Pro - Post Affiliate Pro Integration Add On

If the link to your affiliate program goes down, the site stays up

An affiliate brings in a new member. The payment goes through, the member enters their level and the affiliate waits to see their sale in Post Affiliate Pro. They are two separate systems, and the second depends on the first managing to talk to it.

Failsafe mode keeps the site running and leaves an error visible to the administrator; what became of the sales made in that window is something you need to check yourself.

The add-on connects Paid Memberships Pro with your Post Affiliate Pro account, which we will call PAP from here on: it follows affiliate clicks and records each completed signup. Review those notices and, after an error, check the sales from that window in PAP.

What it records and what it sends to PAP

  • Click tracking: when someone arrives through an affiliate link, the add-on sets click and visitor cookies.
  • Membership sale: on each successfully completed signup it sends the sale data to PAP, including the product ID and the order total.
  • Order data: it captures the total, the order ID, the membership level name and the affiliate ID.
  • Click data on the order: optionally adds the campaign, channel and visitor data of the click to the order record.
  • Campaigns and channels: it works with the campaigns and channels you already have in PAP.
  • Links: affiliate links are created in PAP as usual.

It is designed for sites where each member can hold one or more active levels.

An idea to test: comparing orders with PAP sales

Each transaction records the total, the order ID, the level name and the affiliate ID, so you could compare a list of Paid Memberships Pro orders with the sales shown in PAP for a period. If an order with an affiliate does not appear in PAP, that is the first place to look.

It is a procedure of your own, not a feature of the add-on. Try it with a test purchase from an affiliate link and check which details appear on each side and whether they match before relying on it to settle commissions.

How it is configured and what it does not include

Configuration has no screen in the admin. It is done by editing four constants in the add-on's main file, pmpro-post-affiliate-pro.php: URL_TO_PAP, with your account address; PAP_LOGIN, with your login email; PAP_PASS, with your PAP API key; and PAP_ACCOUNT, with the account name.

That calls for some comfort with WordPress files and PHP. Among its features there is no commissions or reports panel: that stays in PAP. It needs Paid Memberships Pro installed and active, and a PAP account with API credentials.

Starting the tracking

  1. Check that Paid Memberships Pro is installed and active.
  2. In the admin, go to Memberships, Add Ons, find the add-on and press Install Now. You can also upload the .zip from Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin.
  3. Activate it from the Plugins screen.
  4. Edit the four constants in the main file with your PAP account details.
  5. Create the affiliate links in PAP and make a test purchase to see the sale recorded.

Affiliates and memberships in the catalog

If your affiliate program is not PAP, the catalog includes PMPro Affiliates Tracking. To connect Paid Memberships Pro with other tools, see Paid Memberships Pro Zapier Add-on.
