About PeepSo Early Access Addon

Deactivating this plugin does not turn off what you turned on with it

You try a new search in your community, something does not convince you, and you do what you would do with any plugin: you deactivate it. The feature is still there. In PeepSo Early Access, whatever you enabled stays enabled even when the plugin is deactivated, and the only way to turn it off is in its own settings.

This detail changes the order of work. First you turn off each feature in the settings and then, if you want, you deactivate the plugin.

PeepSo Early Access is a PeepSo add-on for enabling and testing features that are in development or planned for later.

Nine features to try before they arrive

  • Translatable Emails: emails in several languages, with TranslatePress as a requirement.
  • New Search: AJAX search covering PeepSo plus WordPress posts and pages.
  • Fast Friends Queries: experimental queries for faster loading with large friend lists.
  • Fast Queries: experimental queries for faster activity loading on very large sites.
  • Show Unread Posts & Comments: highlights activity the user has not seen yet.
  • TranslatePress SVG Flags: replaces PNG flags with scalable SVG flags.
  • Frontend Group / Page Deletion: lets owners and admins permanently delete groups or pages from the front end.
  • XML Sitemaps: integrates WordPress XML sitemaps.
  • Auto RTL: detects right-to-left languages in the postbox and the comment box.

Four stages that tell you how far to trust each feature

Each feature moves through four states: ALPHA, BETA, RC (release candidate) and DONE (ready for release). The label is read feature by feature, because the plugin gathers pieces at different points in their development.

There are also features marked as too early to receive feedback. Those without the production-ready mark come with no guarantees, so that label is the first thing to check before enabling anything.

Your real community is not the test bench

Features that are not ready should not be installed on the live site. A community holds other people's posts, conversations and profiles, and among these features is one that permanently deletes groups or pages.

The careful approach is to work on a copy of the site with data similar to the real thing. The two fast query features are meant for large friend lists and very large sites, so a nearly empty installation will tell you little about them.

Nor does this add-on bring TranslatePress, which the translatable emails need.

How to set up the test on a copy

You need PeepSo running and, for Translatable Emails, TranslatePress. Then follow this order:

  1. Create a copy of the site and work on it.
  2. Install and activate PeepSo Early Access.
  3. Check the stage of the feature you are interested in.
  4. Enable it in the plugin settings and test it with different types of account.
  5. If it does not convince you, turn it off in those same settings before deactivating the plugin.

Catalog pieces to go with the test

PeepSo Core is the base of the community, with profiles, groups and activity. For the working copy, WP Staging Pro clones the site and lets you move the database and files from the copy to the live site.

If you are going to try the translatable emails, TranslatePress Business translates the site from a visual editor on the page itself. And if you want a released feature for communication between members, PeepSo Core: Chat adds private messages and real-time chat.

Early Access under test

Do the features turn off if I deactivate the plugin?

No. They stay enabled and are turned off only from the plugin settings.

Can I use it on my production site?

Features without the production-ready mark come with no guarantees and should not be installed on a live site.

What does DONE mean?

That the feature is ready for release. It is the last of the four stages, after ALPHA, BETA and RC.

Can I give feedback on any feature?

Not all of them. Some are still too early to receive feedback and are marked as such.

What do I need for the translatable emails?

TranslatePress, in addition to PeepSo and this add-on.

Does it work without PeepSo?

No. It is a PeepSo add-on and all its features act on that community.
