About Permalink Manager Pro

Changing a URL in WordPress looks like a small detail and ends up being a risk: broken links, 404 pages, lost rankings and half-finished code to fix what WordPress itself won't let you touch. Permalink Manager Pro exists for the moment when the default link structure falls short.

The case of a store that wants clean URLs

Picture a WooCommerce store with hundreds of products whose addresses carry /product/ and /product-category/. You want shorter, more readable URLs. Here is the walkthrough with the plugin:

  • Step 1, define the structure: instead of relying on the general WordPress setting, you define your own permalink format for each content type, including custom post types and taxonomies. You can remove /product/ and /product-category/, or include the SKU in the product URL.
  • Step 2, decide the scope: you can apply the structure only to new content or update existing content as well, depending on your SEO strategy. Think before you click, because changing a whole catalog at once is a business decision, not just a technical one.
  • Step 3, review in bulk: the bulk editor lets you see and modify many URLs from a single admin screen, to add keywords or remove unneeded words.
  • Step 4, keep the traffic: old URLs are redirected automatically to the new ones, with no manual setup and no extra redirect plugin.

Edit the full URL, not just the end

WordPress only lets you change the slug, the last part of the address. Permalink Manager Pro lets you edit the entire URL of each item, replacing the default structure. It helps when you want to remove the "-2" that appears on duplicate slugs, or remove parent slugs or the rewrite base of a content type.

You can also add extra redirects by hand. They are useful, for example, when you merge several thin posts into one or when you want to track conversions with a dedicated URL.

Custom fields inside the URL

If you work with structured content (properties, events, product pages), you may want a custom field to be part of the address. The plugin lets you do it from the dashboard, without PHP snippets. It works with native WordPress fields and with those from ACF, Pods, JetEngine and Toolset Types.

Multilingual sites with Permalink Manager Pro

If your site uses WPML or Polylang, you can give each language its own URL format, so the address varies by the language of the content, whether posts, pages or terms. If you use another language plugin, check in the demo first how it behaves, because the compatibility described is with those two.

Frequently asked questions

Does it break old links when I change a URL?

It shouldn't: previous addresses are redirected automatically to the new ones. Even so, after a bulk change, check a sample of old URLs to confirm they redirect as you expect.

Is it useful for a site without a store?

Yes. WooCommerce is just one use; it also covers posts, pages, custom post types and taxonomies on any site.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Structures, custom fields and edits are managed from the WordPress dashboard.

Can I change only some URLs and leave the rest?

Yes. You can edit individual URLs or apply a structure only to new content, without touching existing content.

What to be clear about before changing anything

Changing the URLs of a site with traffic that already ranks always carries risk, even if redirects are automated. The plugin gives you control, but it doesn't decide for you which structure suits you. Make a backup, test first in a staging environment and change in batches if the catalog is large.
