About Pinterest Automatic Pin WordPress Plugin

Pinning by hand gets abandoned, and the old archive is left out

Pinning a post means opening Pinterest, choosing the image, writing the text, finding the board and pasting the link. You do it enthusiastically the first week and drop it the second. The usual result: new posts get pinned now and then, and years of archive never get pinned at all.

Anyone who publishes content with good photos has material that may never have gone through Pinterest. Pinterest Automatic Pin takes the images from your posts and publishes them to your account, with each pin linked to its source post.

Pinterest Automatic Pin: a queue with random intervals for the whole archive

You select several posts and the plugin puts them in a queue. It publishes them one by one according to the schedule, with a random interval between pins, so dozens of pins are not dumped at once. Per post you can pin anything from one image to all of them, and the plugin lists the detected images so you choose which ones get published.

It also works for scheduled posts: you mark the images and they are pinned when the post is published. You can use the internal WordPress cron or a dedicated one.

Each image to its board, with the text filled in automatically

The plugin detects the boards in your account, and you can create unlimited rules by category or tag (each image goes to a single board). If no rule applies, the default board and text are used. The pin link points to the post, but it can also be fixed or come from a custom field, and you can even upload the image without a link.

The text supports nine variables that are replaced with data from the post: [image_alt], [post_title], [post_tags] (converted into hashtags), [post_excerpt], [post_link], [post_author], [post_category], [product_price] and the value of any custom field. With spintax such as {great|nice|useful} one word is picked at random in each pin, so the texts don't come out identical.

Pins are not designed here: it publishes images that already exist

Pinterest Automatic Pin automates the pinning, not the creative side. This is how the work is split:

  • Already solved: detecting images and boards, the queue, rules by category or tag and text with variables.
  • You prepare it: the images. The plugin pins the ones already in your posts (it tries to use the full-size version instead of the thumbnail) and does not edit them or add text to them.
  • Before starting: create the boards on Pinterest, because the plugin detects the ones that already exist in your account.
  • By hand: writing a good text template and checking that the first pins read well.
  • Outside the plugin: judging on Pinterest which pins work and adjusting your strategy.

Filters so that just any image doesn't slip through

You can exclude images narrower than a given width, or whose URL contains a specific text (icons, banners). You can also skip entire categories and skip duplicates of the same image in the same post. It works with custom post types, with WooCommerce products (with the price in the text) and with posts generated by bots such as those from WordPress Automatic. If your images don't appear in the editor, for example shortcode galleries, it can detect them from the front end or with your own jQuery selector. It includes proxy support and the option to show the plugin to administrators only.

Common questions about Pinterest Automatic Pin

Does it work for a WooCommerce store?

Yes: it can pin the products and use the price in the pin text with the [product_price] variable.

What if my images are in a gallery or a custom field?

It can pin the image from a URL stored in a custom field and detect from the front end images that the editor does not show.

Do I always have to link the pin to my post?

No. It is the usual setup, but the link can be fixed, come from a custom field or be absent.

Will it pin the same photo twice?

There is an option to skip duplicates: it does not repeat the same image from the same post.
