About PMPRO Signup Shortcode Addon
For anyone who wants to capture members without sending them to the generic checkout, and not for anyone looking for another membership system
Someone arrives from a newsletter or a landing page, clicks "join" and lands on a long checkout built for taking payments, with fields a free level doesn't need. This add-on places the signup form for a specific level inside any page, post or widget area.
It helps to know from the start what it is not: it doesn't work on its own. It needs Paid Memberships Pro installed and active, and it doesn't create levels, restrict content or take payments by itself. It is only the front door. If you don't have levels yet, start there.
The short form that removes friction from the free level
Free levels are a funnel business: every field you ask for costs you signups. With PMPro Signup Shortcode Addon you decide how much to ask for:
- short: hides the email and password confirmation fields, and supports email-only signup.
- confirm_email and confirm_password: hide or show each one separately.
- hidelabels: removes the labels and uses each field's placeholder text (it may not work with custom fields).
- custom_fields: shows or hides custom user fields and those added by other add-ons.
In email-only mode, the username and password are generated automatically, and you can turn on auto-login so the new member gets in with no extra steps.
One form per level, or a dropdown with several
The level attribute sets the form's level and is required unless you use levels. With levels you show a dropdown with all available levels or with a comma-separated list of IDs; levels the member already holds appear disabled. If you combine both, level sets the preselected level.
You can add a title, your own intro text (or remove it), change the button text and show or hide the login link. If you prefer the block editor, there is a PMPro Signup block where you pick the level in the sidebar; with the classic editor or a page builder you use the shortcode.
What happens when the level is paid
With a free level, the account is created and the member goes to the redirect page you choose: the referring page, their account or your own URL. With a paid level, or any other checkout requirement, the user moves on to the membership checkout page to enter billing and payment details. The short form does not skip payment.
Also, even if you only use free levels, you must have the levels and checkout pages assigned in the Memberships page settings. And if the level ID is missing or wrong, the form doesn't appear for visitors; only logged-in administrators see a notice.
Useful details for campaigns and developers
You can build links that prefill fields such as email or username through URL parameters, which is handy if you arrive from an email marketing tool. To add your own text inside the form there are four actions available: before the fields, before the button, after the button and after the whole form.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work without Paid Memberships Pro?
No. It is an add-on and requires the main plugin to be active.
Can I take payment from the same page?
No. Paid levels redirect to the membership checkout to complete payment.
Can I use it with a page builder?
Yes, through the shortcode. If you use the block editor, there is a dedicated block.
Where do I find the level ID?
In Memberships > Settings > Levels, in the ID column.
Can I ask only for the email?
Yes, with short="emailonly"; the username and password are generated automatically.
