About PMPRP Address For Free Levels
A free member's address stays on their sign-up order
You offer a free level to get people in, and you want to know where each person who signs up lives. You add the address field, the member fills it in and you have the data. Weeks later they move, update it where they think it belongs, and your record still says what they typed on sign-up day.
This add-on stores the address on the sign-up order, so it is a record of what they declared when joining; data the member keeps up to date calls for another piece.
Paid Memberships Pro only collects billing details on paid levels that use onsite payment gateways. Capture Name & Address for Free Levels or Offsite Gateway adds name and address to the checkout of free levels, and also when payment goes through an offsite gateway such as PayPal Express.
What it collects and where you see it
- Billing name and address fields on the checkout form of free levels.
- The same fields with offsite gateways, where the normal checkout does not ask for them.
- Storage on the order: the data is saved with the membership order.
- Admin view: you see it under Memberships > Orders.
- Nothing sent to the gateway: the site does not pass this data to the payment service, it stays in your database.
The add-on is designed for sites where members can hold one or more active membership levels.
A free level with an address, to test
A setup you can rehearse: a test free level, a paid level using PayPal Express, and the add-on active on both. It is your own combination and not a function described as such, so run a test sign-up on each level and open both orders under Memberships > Orders to see what was saved. That check tells you whether the data you expect reaches the screen where you will look for it, before you open the level to the public.
Limits of the add-on
It has no settings: once activated, the fields appear at once on checkout and all its functions are available. That also means there is no screen to choose fields, reorder them or decide which are required.
The data stays on the order. If you want the address to be part of the member record and editable by the member, Paid Memberships Pro has other pieces: the Mailing Address add-on stores the address on the user record, and User Fields suits custom checkout forms with persistent profile data.
Getting it running
It requires Paid Memberships Pro installed and active. To get started:
- Install the add-on from Memberships > Add Ons with the Install Now button, or upload it under Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
- Activate it from the Plugins screen.
- Open the checkout of a free level and confirm that name and address appear.
- Run a test sign-up and review the order under Memberships > Orders.
Nearby checkout add-ons
The Paid Memberships Pro catalog has other add-ons that touch the payment form, such as PMPro Add Name to Checkout or PMPro State Dropdowns.
Answers about the add-on
Is the data sent to the payment gateway?
No. It is stored on your site and not passed to the payment service.
Where do I see the collected addresses?
Under Memberships > Orders, inside each order.
Do I need to configure anything after activating it?
It has no settings. The fields appear on checkout once it is activated.
Is the address saved on the member's profile?
It is saved on the order. The Mailing Address add-on and User Fields keep it on the user record.
