About Pokemania – Game Portal Pokemon WordPress Theme

A fan blog lives on publishing fast and being easy to read

Building a video game news site often ends up as a generic blog where guides, videos and news are mixed together with no order, and visitors don't know where to go next. Pokemania is designed to avoid that: it is a Pokémon-themed game portal theme, with a homepage organized into content blocks.

Here is the key in this sector: a fan site does not compete on exclusives, it competes on being the place people come back to every week. That depends less on design than on visitors quickly finding the latest posts, the most voted ones and what interests their kind of player. This theme is built around that idea.

Homepage with news, videos, tips and character cards

The theme's homepage combines several blocks, each with a different purpose:

  • Latest news and latest videos and trailers, each with a link to see the full archive.
  • Tips and tricks.
  • Popular news with star ratings and votes.
  • Featured Pokémon, with a short card and a link to read more.
  • Recommended posts and recent comments.

The menu already covers typical game portal sections: documentation, about the Pokémon, game FAQ, gameplay videos and contact.

How Pokemania is customized: blog, header, footer and sidebar

The blog supports standard, gallery, quote, link and audio post formats, so you can alternate a long article with a screenshot gallery or an audio clip.

The listing layout can be chosen from a 2 or 3 column grid, 2 or 3 column masonry, and a list. For an image-heavy portal, masonry makes better use of space when thumbnails have different heights; the grid looks tidier if they are all the same.

There are also three header styles, three footer styles, a right, left or no sidebar, and typography settings. Social icons (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Vimeo and YouTube) appear in several places in the design, along with subscription blocks.

Decide if Pokemania suits you before building your portal

It is a theme tied to a specific topic and era: the sample content revolves around Pokémon GO and Pokémon Sun and Moon, with 2016 dates. It works as a visual base for a fan portal, but you will have to replace all the demo texts, images and videos with your own. If your site covers another topic, the structure may work but the Pokémon look will not.

One more thing: the design is that of a news blog, not a store or a community with forums. If you need player rankings, forums or a shop, you will have to solve that with other plugins and check how they fit.

Does it work for another video game topic?

Yes, the structure of news, videos and guides is reusable, but the demo imagery and texts are made for Pokémon.

Can I remove the sidebar?

Yes, you can choose a right sidebar, a left one or none.

Does it support video or audio posts?

It supports gallery, quote, link and audio post formats, besides the standard one. Check in the demo how each one looks.

Does it include forums or a shop?

No. It is a blog and news portal theme.

Can I collect subscribers?

There are subscription blocks in the design. Check in the demo which email service you want to connect them to.
