About Polylang Integration with AMP

Translating the site is only half the job: the mobile version has to speak your languages too

Building a multilingual site with Polylang is already a lot of work. If the site serves AMP pages, it is easy to take care of the translation and forget that the fast mobile version has to respect it too.

Polylang Integration with AMP is a compatibility extension: it does not translate anything or add languages. Its only job is to make your Polylang setup and your AMP version understand each other.

Polylang Integration with AMP step by step, from translated site to AMP in every language

1. Start from a Polylang setup that already works

Before installing anything, you need Polylang active, with your languages defined and your pages translated. The extension reads that setup, so it neither replaces it nor fixes a half-finished translation.

2. Activate the extension and leave everything alone

There is no options panel to fill in. When you activate it, it adds AMP compatibility automatically. That is an advantage if you do not want more settings, and a limit if you expected to decide language by language how the AMP version behaves: there is no such control here.

3. Let it recognize your languages

The extension identifies your current language setup and generates the matching AMP version from it. You do not duplicate or reconfigure anything.

4. Check each language on your phone

This is the step the extension cannot do for you. Open a page in each language, check that the AMP version matches that language and run your usual AMP validator. If you have menus, language switchers or heavily customized templates, look closely there.

Frequently asked questions before installing it

Do I need Polylang?

Yes. The extension is designed to integrate with a Polylang installation that is already set up; without it there is nothing to integrate.

Do I also need an AMP plugin?

Yes, it is an extension that complements your AMP system, not a replacement for it. It is compatible with other AMP plugins, so if you already use one, check on your test site that everything behaves well.

Does it translate my content?

No. Translations remain your job, in Polylang. The extension only makes sure the AMP version respects the languages.

Can I set different options per language?

It has no options of its own. It works with what is already configured in Polylang.

When Polylang Integration with AMP adds nothing for you

  • If your site has a single language: it makes no sense.
  • If you use a multilingual plugin other than Polylang: it is built for Polylang.
  • If you do not serve AMP pages: there is no version to generate.

On the other hand, if you already have Polylang running and want to offer AMP without adding a layer of settings, it is a small, specific piece that does one thing. Try it in the demo or on a test environment with your real languages before putting it into production.
