The site you want to show decides whether it can be shown

You paste the address of an article of yours published on another outlet, save, open the window and it comes up empty or with an error. You check the settings again and again, and everything looks right. What is failing may be outside your WordPress.

When you put someone else's page in an iframe, permission comes from that page's owner. Iframe Popup, the Popup Builder extension, opens a window over your site with the content of another address. It is a direct way to show a map, a video or a publication without the visitor leaving. What appears inside depends on the other site, so the first test should use the real address, not a sample one.

Content that can go in the window

• Maps: to show where your company is, with the ability to zoom in or out.
• Videos and digital publications: they appear as an embedded HTML document.
• Weather forecasts: useful for tour operators or outdoor activities.
• Articles on another site: the visitor reads them inside the window.
• A whole website: the window is scalable and can show it in full.

The content keeps living at the other address. If it changes or disappears there, what your visitor sees changes too.

Two blocks that come from the browser

If the window comes up empty, check these two cases before looking for a fault in the plugin:

• The other site forbids embedding. A site can send the X-Frame-Options header. With DENY its page does not load in any frame, and with SAMEORIGIN it only loads within its own origin. The frame-ancestors directive of Content-Security-Policy plays a similar role with more options.
• The address uses http and your site uses https. Browsers block an http iframe inside an https page, because it is mixed content that is not upgraded to https.

In both cases, the browser makes the decision based on each site's configuration. If the page is yours, you can review its header. If it belongs to someone else, you will have to look for an address meant for embedding or link to it normally.

When it opens and which link triggers it

The window can open on click, on scroll, on hover, on exit intent or after a period of inactivity. It supports soft or aggressive mode, animation effects and visual customization, and it can be limited to a date range.

Check what you have installed before counting on each trigger. Exit intent, Inactivity Event and Scheduling are offered as Popup Builder extensions of their own, separate from this one.

Another practical use: create an empty iframe popup and add to a link the class sg-iframe-popup- followed by the popup ID. When the link is clicked, its page opens in the window and the visitor stays on your site.

Popup Builder active and an address to paste

The extension runs on top of Popup Builder, which must be installed. With both active:

1. Go to Popup Builder in your dashboard and click Add New.
2. Choose the Iframe type.
3. Copy the address you want to show and paste it into the Iframe URL field under Iframe Settings.
4. Save and define the event that will open the window.
5. Try it on your site in a private window and check that the content loads.

When the content should stay inside the page

A popup window is not always what you need. Advanced iFrame Pro includes a page in a post through a shortcode, fits the size to the content and lets you show or hide areas, also on different domains.

EmbedPress Pro takes another route: you paste an address and the content is embedded in the post, with sources such as YouTube, Vimeo, Google Maps, Google documents or PDFs.

Answers about the iframe window

Why does the popup come up blank?

The cause may be a header on the other site that forbids embedding, or an http address inside an https site. Try another page first.

Does it work for Google Maps?

Yes: it is one of the intended uses. Paste the map link into Iframe URL and check on your site that it loads.

Can I open a link inside the popup?

Yes, with an empty iframe popup and the class sg-iframe-popup- plus its ID on the link.

Does it work without Popup Builder?

No. It is an extension and needs that plugin as its base.

Can I show it only on certain dates?

Yes, it can be limited to a date range. Scheduling is the extension that schedules popups by period.
