About Popup Builder PDF
Someone opening a long PDF is looking for a page, not the document
You have a catalog with many pages and a link that opens it at the first one. The visitor wanted the size chart, which sits much further in, and has to scroll until finding it.
A PDF shown in a popup can open already on the page that matters, so the visitor does not have to work through the document to reach it.
Popup Builder PDF is a Popup Builder extension that adds a popup type for displaying a PDF file. You upload the file, choose the zoom level and the page it opens on, and the visitor reads it inside the popup, with a viewer toolbar.
What the PDF popup offers
- "PDF" popup type: chosen when creating a new popup, with the file uploaded through "Upload .pdf file".
- Zoom level: automatic, full width, or 25%, 50%, 75%, 125%, 150% and 200%.
- Starting page: you enter the page number shown when the popup opens.
- Presentation, print and download: the toolbar includes presentation mode, print and download.
- Navigation: go to the first or the last page, when the file has more than one.
- Rotation: rotate clockwise or counterclockwise.
- Reading tools: text selection and hand tool.
- Scrolling: page, vertical, horizontal or wrapped.
- Spreads: none, odd or even.
Opening a size chart on its own page
Suppose a PDF catalog where the size chart sits on a specific page, and a product page from which you want to show it. One combination you can try is a popup with that PDF, the chart's page as the starting page and zoom on automatic. Open it on a phone and on a computer before publishing.
- Find the number of the page you want to show.
- Create a new popup of the PDF type and upload the file.
- Enter that number as the starting page.
- Leave zoom on automatic, which is the recommended setting when a page is set.
- Open the popup and check that the chart reads without adjusting anything.
One popup, one PDF and a toolbar that allows downloads
- It does not work on its own: it needs Popup Builder installed and active.
- It shows one PDF file per popup, the one you upload in the file field.
- The toolbar includes download and print: keep in mind the visitor has those options on the document.
- Among its features there are no document formats other than PDF.
How to create the PDF popup
You need Popup Builder active on your WordPress.
- Install and activate the extension on the site where Popup Builder is.
- In Popup Builder click "Add New".
- Choose the "PDF" type in the menu.
- Enter a title, click "Upload" under "Upload .pdf file" and choose the file.
- Adjust zoom and starting page, and define when and where the popup opens.
Alternatives for showing a PDF
If the PDF should appear inside a page rather than in a popup, there are PDF viewers to embed: in the catalog you have PDF Embedder Premium and PDF Embed. To show other content in a Popup Builder popup there is Popup Builder iFrame.
