About Product Condition for WooCommerce

Selling second-hand goods on WooCommerce has a problem the catalog doesn't show: two watches that look identical in the photo can be worth very different amounts, and if the listing doesn't say which is which, the customer asks questions, haggles or returns the item.

Every return for "it wasn't what I expected" starts with an ambiguous listing

In a second-hand business, condition is the product. Someone buying a used item doesn't only compare price and model: they compare how much wear they're willing to accept. Product Condition for WooCommerce adds that detail to the product page, alongside the rest of the information, so nobody has to guess by reading the long description.

Walkthrough: from the whole store to a single item

Imagine a store that mixes refurbished items, used items and a few new ones with an open box.

  • Step 1, set one condition for the whole store. If 90% of your stock is "Pre-Owned", you choose it once and every product inherits it. You save yourself editing them one by one.
  • Step 2, fix the exceptions. On each product you can set a different condition that replaces the general one: the only new item in the store, or the damaged one sold for parts.
  • Step 3, choose the label. There are more than 20 predefined conditions, including Acceptable, Brand New, Certified Pre-Owned, Damaged, For Parts, Good, Like New, Manufacturer Refurbished, New With Defects, New Without Box, Remanufactured, Seller Refurbished, Used and Very Good. You can also add a custom condition.
  • Step 4, display it. The condition appears on the product page and, optionally, on the shop page too.

What you gain in search engines

The plugin adds the condition to the product metadata and to Schema markup. That lets search engines know whether what you sell is new, used or refurbished and match it with people searching for exactly that kind of item. It helps them understand you better; it is not a guarantee of ranking.

Limits of Product Condition for WooCommerce worth knowing beforehand

Comments from other users point to two things. First: the intermediate labels many businesses use, such as "Used / Acceptable" or "New, with missing parts", are not simply a free text field; you have the predefined list and the option of a custom condition, so define your vocabulary in advance and check in the demo how it looks. Second: one user could not remove the condition from the shop page, so if a clean listing matters to you, test it first with your theme.

For those who code, the plugin includes hooks that let you add or remove conditions from the default list. If you don't touch code, you stay with the ones provided.

Yes, it is optional, in addition to the product page.

Do I have to write the conditions by hand?

No, there are more than 20 predefined ones. If none fits, you can create your own.

Do I need WooCommerce?
