About PublishPress Blocks Pro

Newsrooms with many hands, not a one-person blog

When five people write on one site, the problem is rarely a lack of blocks: it is that each author builds the page their own way, uses the block they should not have, and the design gets messy within weeks. PublishPress Blocks Pro makes the most sense there: magazines, blogs with contributors, media sites or organizations where many people edit and few should decide the look.

If you write alone and paragraphs, images and the occasional list are enough, most of what it brings (role permissions, usage scanning, auto-insert) will not help you. And if you build with a page builder instead of the block editor, this plugin does not replace it: it works inside Gutenberg.

Who can use each block, even the WordPress ones

You can enable or disable blocks by user role, including the default ones. The classic example: removing the Classic block for editors so they do not go back to the old editor. That way contributors see only what they need and stop improvising.

Custom block styles complete the picture: you name them, create them with a simple tool or with your own CSS, and editors apply them when needed. It is how the house design repeats without anyone touching code.

Blocks that show up only when they should

With Block Controls you schedule when a block is shown and add role restrictions. You can also condition it on device type, browser, operating system, cookies or user data, and set a custom time zone for schedules.

Three more tools keep things tidy:

  • Block usage: scans the site and tells you which posts use each block, so you can edit or remove it.
  • Reusable blocks: a submenu to manage them and use the same one in many places.
  • Auto-insert: places a reusable block in posts based on position, categories or tags.

Content Display in PublishPress Blocks Pro: homepages and listings without coding

It is a powerful block of the set. It shows posts, pages and custom post types in several layouts, with filters by author, category or tag. You can pick specific posts, change the order of sections, adjust the featured image size, the read more link design and the title and text colors. With Google Fonts you can use different typefaces for the title, info and content. It also supports PublishPress Series content.

Over 20 extra blocks, with caveats

They include accordions, tabs, image sliders, buttons, icons, info boxes, counters, testimonials, maps, table of contents, countdown and a pricing table that combines with the columns manager (24 column layouts). The Pro version also adds Google Fonts for paragraphs and headings and lets you remove PublishPress ads and branding.

Two warnings: the contact form and the newsletter save and export the data they receive, but check in the demo whether the newsletter connects to your email service before counting on it. And if you collect personal data, review your privacy obligations.

Questions before giving your team permissions

Does it replace my page builder?

No. It extends the WordPress block editor; it is not a separate builder.

Can I hide blocks from certain users?

Yes, by role, and it also affects native WordPress blocks.

Can I schedule a block by date?

Yes, with Block Controls, and you can add restrictions by role, device or browser.

How do I know where I use a block before removing it?

With the block usage feature, which scans the site and shows which content uses it.
