About PublishPress Capabilities PRO

When every user sees the whole dashboard, someone ends up touching what they shouldn't

Giving WordPress access to writers, contributors or clients usually ends the same way: a menu full of screens they don't understand, distracting notices, and the risk that someone deletes, publishes or changes something that wasn't theirs to touch. The roles WordPress ships with are few and rigid, and they rarely match how a team really works.

PublishPress Capabilities PRO lets you adjust what each role can do and also what it sees.

Real situations and how PublishPress Capabilities PRO handles them

You have an editorial team with different tasks

You can create a new role or copy an existing one and adjust its permissions: who publishes, who only reads, who edits and who deletes content. This applies to posts, pages and custom post types. If you use PublishPress or PublishPress Permissions, you also decide which roles can move posts into custom statuses.

You give access to contributors who get lost in the editor

Choose which editor features each role sees and remove unnecessary panels and controls, in both the block editor and the Classic Editor. You can also remove metaboxes from the editing screen.

You hand the site over to a client

Edit the admin menu, restrict screens by role and block admin pages by URL. You can also hide dashboard widgets, toolbar links and admin notices, and clean unnecessary fields from the user profile.

You run a WooCommerce store

Control access to products, orders and coupons, and permissions for product categories, tags and shipping classes. Useful when the person uploading products shouldn't touch orders.

You have a multisite network

Manage permissions on a single site or across the whole network, and choose when to synchronize role changes to the other sites.

More control than it seems: media, taxonomies and the public site

  • Media Library: decide who uploads, edits and deletes files, plus access to its features and the featured image box.
  • Taxonomies: define who manages, edits and assigns terms in categories, tags and custom taxonomies.
  • Visible side: show navigation links by role or by whether the person is logged in, and customize hidden elements, CSS styles and body classes.

Permission backups: the undo button almost nobody has

Changing permissions blindly is scary because one wrong setting can lock someone out. The plugin automatically backs up changes, and a screen lets you restore an earlier configuration. Even so, test your changes with a user from each role before calling the job done.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, it lets you remove panels and controls in both.

Does it work with WooCommerce?

Custom statuses need another PublishPress plugin

Control over who moves posts into custom statuses works alongside PublishPress or PublishPress Permissions; on its own, Capabilities doesn't add those statuses. It is also not an editorial calendar plugin: it focuses on permissions and on simplifying the admin area.
