About Scalability Pro WordPress Plugin

When the catalogue grows faster than the database behind it

The shop was fine with a few products. Now opening Products in the admin takes patience, category pages drag, and the import you used to start at lunchtime now runs overnight so you can check the result in the morning. It is not the hosting: queries are reading more and more rows, and the ones WordPress never indexed are the first to slow down. Scalability Pro goes after that database work instead of masking the symptoms.

What Scalability Pro does under the hood

  • Indexes WordPress does not ship: for example, there is no full index on meta_key in wp_postmeta, so a query that runs on every admin screen reads the whole table. On a table of 2.03 million rows, that query went from examining 2,040,368 rows in 950 ms to examining 205 in 1.4 ms.
  • Pagination without counting everything: to print "page 1 of 5,000", WordPress first counts all the rows. The plugin fetches one extra row to know whether a next page exists, and you choose whether visitors see an exact total, an estimate or just "Next".
  • Deferred imports: WordPress recounts term relationships on every insert. The plugin postpones that count and does it afterwards, in batches of 500 terms.
  • Checkout shield: cache-purge plugins treat every WooCommerce order note as a page edit. On a test store that meant 30 outbound HTTP requests in a single checkout; with the shield, none.
  • Autoload options optimiser: it records which options each key page really reads, stops autoloading the big unused ones and autoloads the ones that are used. You can review it before applying, revert it afterwards and let it re-check itself every month.

What you get depending on who you are

You run a large WooCommerce store

This is the clearest profile. Customer reviews mention catalogues of 250,000 to 500,000 products and category listings that dropped from over 15 seconds to 2. These are each customer's experience on their own site, not a benchmark, so your timings will depend on your database.

You live on imports and stock syncs

One customer tried the plugin alongside WP All Import and reported that a 3-day stock sync became a 1-hour one. If your bottleneck is the importer, this is the lever that does not require changing importer.

Your team suffers in wp-admin

The plugin caches the author and status counts above the post and product lists, and switches off the months, categories and formats dropdowns that run their own query on every list screen.

You have a slow, heavy theme

Beyond the database, it can stop loading plugins that a page does not use. It only applies on its own the rules that a deep scan has proven safe (identical output, no queries, no outbound HTTP, no mail); anything doubtful waits for your decision.

Measure before and after instead of taking it on faith

The guided setup creates every index that applies to your site and turns on the optimisations a visitor cannot see, step by step and telling you what it leaves alone and why. If an index build outlives the web request, it reports "applying" rather than failure. With the free Super Speedy Performance Analysis plugin installed, it profiles your key pages before and after, and gives you the generation time and SQL time for each. The result is a number, not a feeling.

Frequently asked questions

Is it only for WooCommerce?

No. The indexes and the admin counts cache work for posts and other content types, and one review mentions a site with 500,000 posts. That said, the checkout and variation benefits are for WooCommerce stores.

Can I undo the changes?

The autoload optimiser is reviewable before it applies and revertible afterwards. For the rest, the wizard shows you each step as it is applied.

Do I need another plugin?

Not to work, but without Performance Analysis you will not get the before and after measurements or the per-page rules based on what each plugin does.

A small store will notice little

The cases described are databases with hundreds of thousands or millions of rows. If your site has a modest catalogue, queries are not yet the problem and the benefit will be smaller. Nor does it replace a page cache or fix heavy images or a badly built theme: it deals with database work.
