About SearchWP WP Job Manager Integration

A candidate types "accountant" into your job board and sees nothing, even though you have three "financial administrator" listings that would suit them. When keyword search only looks at the basics, good listings go unread and the candidate leaves for another site.

What this integration changes in WP Job Manager

SearchWP WP Job Manager Integration makes SearchWP handle keyword search in WP Job Manager. It is an extension of SearchWP: it does not replace the job plugin, it only replaces the engine that decides which listings match what the visitor types.

A candidate looks for a job: what happens at each step

Let's follow a person arriving at your board looking for a position. Each step shows what they do and what the product solves.

  • They type a word into the search box. SearchWP indexes each listing's details, custom fields and taxonomies, so the word can match more than the title.
  • They look at the order of the results. You can adjust the weight of each field in the algorithm and, in addition, the engine learns from visitors' search behavior. Listings you want to push can rise for a given keyword.
  • You review what they search for. If you use SearchWP's search analytics, you will see which terms keep coming up and can rewrite listings that don't appear for the vocabulary candidates actually use.

Which listings your board stops losing

The usual problem on a job board is that the employer writes the listing in internal jargon and the candidate searches in their own. With everything indexed (description, custom fields, categories, tags) that mismatch shrinks, and you can fix the rest with weights and with what you learn from searches.

It needs SearchWP and WP Job Manager to work

On its own it does nothing: it is a SearchWP add-on and relies on WP Job Manager. Nor does it turn your board into something different: it adds no applications, payments or candidate management. And SearchWP works on self-hosted WordPress, not on WordPress.com.

Other SearchWP extensions, such as Ajax live search, are separate pieces. Don't assume they come with this integration; check on your own installation.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know how to code?

Not to activate the integration. SearchWP offers hooks and filters in case you want to go further.

Does it highlight terms in the results?

SearchWP can highlight the searched words and generate excerpts around them, though you should check how it looks in your board's design.

Does it index author details?

Not by default, but you can tell SearchWP to index any content, including author information.
