No plugin can get other sites to link to you

You search for ways to get links, find a link building plugin and expect mentions to arrive from other domains. Nothing you install on your site can do that: the links pointing at you depend on what other websites decide.

From your WordPress you control only the links leaving your own pages, and that is this plugin's entire territory.

SEO Link Building does one thing: it turns a word or phrase in your content into a link, following rules you write yourself. It does not suggest links, does not analyze your text and chooses nothing on its own.

Keyword and URL rules on a single screen

Everything is set up in the Link Building menu, reserved for users with administrator permissions:

• Master switch to turn the plugin on or off.
• Content types: one checkbox for each public type, except attachments.
• Keyword and URL in each rule, with a target on your site or another.
• Per rule: nofollow checkbox, change limit and case sensitivity.

Links are applied when the page is displayed. The plugin filters the content and the excerpt on each display and writes nothing to the post. That is why it acts the same on published and new content, and the links do not appear in the editor. The link text is the word exactly as written.

The limit counts per keyword, and case sensitivity misleads

Change limit. At 0, the default, every occurrence is linked. With another number, only the first occurrences of that keyword in each piece of content, and the excerpt is counted separately.

That cap belongs to each rule. There is no maximum adding them all up: several rules with a limit of 1 leave one link each in the same text.

Case sensitivity. Unticked, matching ignores case. Ticked, the rule acts only if the exact form appears at least once in the post's HTML, and it then links the variants too: with the rule hosting, a text saying Hosting, HOSTING and hosting links all three.

The replacement reaches into the HTML and trips on accents

Each rule looks for the word in the post's HTML, without telling visible text from tags. With a rule on seo, this happens:

• Headings and existing links: they are linked like any text, and inside a link you get another link.
• Attributes: in an image's alt text or in a URL such as /guia-seo/, the link is inserted inside the attribute and breaks that tag.
• Limit: those occurrences count too, and a limit of 1 can be spent on an attribute before reaching the text.

The search respects word boundaries, so plugin is not linked inside plugins. But accented letters count as separators:

• Partial matches: the rule sal links those three letters inside salón.
• Accents at the edges: a keyword that starts or ends in an accented letter, such as área or café, is not linked.

From activation to the first rule

A freshly activated install links nothing until the first two steps are done:

1. Go to the Link Building menu and tick the Active switch.
2. Tick the content types where the rules should apply.
3. Add a rule with its keyword and URL, decide on the options and save.
4. Open a post containing the word and check the text, the images and the nearby links.

Safeguards missing here and where to find them

Among its features there is no exclusion of headings or tags, overall cap per post, per-post exceptions, new tab option, category-based rules, bulk creation, reports or broken link checker.

Internal Link Juicer excludes headings and sets of HTML tags, and offers per-paragraph limits and allow and block lists.

Link Whisper Pro suggests links as you write, and each suggestion can be accepted, edited or ignored. Its automatic linking has a one-link-per-post option.

Will it bring me links from other sites?

No. It creates links from your own pages, and inbound ones depend on other websites.

How many links does it place in each post?

With the limit at 0, one for each occurrence of each keyword. With another number, that maximum per keyword, with no combined cap.

Can it link by category?

Each rule is a keyword and a URL. That URL can be a category's, but there are no category-based rules.

What happens to the links if I deactivate it?

They stop showing, because they were never saved in the posts.
