About Shipping Discounts for WooCommerce
A shipping tier is one more rule, not an adjustment to the previous one
You want shipping to get cheaper the more the customer buys: some discount from a certain amount, more from a higher one and free from a third. You think of a single scale, and the plugin works with separate rules.
Shipping discount tiers are built with several rules, one per step, so each threshold is maintained separately and reviewed separately.
Shipping Discount for WooCommerce is an addon for another WooCommerce discount plugin. It applies discounts to the cost of shipping methods through coupons, and each applied discount appears as a coupon in the cart.
How a shipping discount is defined
- Percentage or fixed amount: you discount a part or an amount of the shipping method's price.
- Free shipping: a 100% discount on shipping brings it to zero.
- Conditions: order subtotal, roles, customers, products in the cart, categories in the cart, order history and number of items.
- Minimum purchase: the rule activates when the cart total reaches a figure you set.
- Method and zone: you can limit the discount to one shipping method, such as flat rate, within a specific zone.
- Shipping address: country, state, city, zone and postcode.
- Tiers: several rules so larger orders get more discount.
A rule for wholesale customers in one zone
A store with wholesale customers can create a rule for that role: a shipping discount when the cart total exceeds a certain figure and only in the zone where it ships at a flat rate. This is one idea of use; adjust it to your store.
What it discounts and what it does not create
Among its functions there is no creating shipping methods or calculating rates: it discounts the price of the ones you already have configured in WooCommerce. It is an addon for the discount rules and dynamic pricing plugin, so it needs that plugin installed and active.
Setting up the first rule
You need WooCommerce with at least one shipping method and the Discount Rules and Dynamic Pricing for WooCommerce plugin. Then:
- Install the addon with the WordPress installer and activate it.
- Go to Woo Pricing & Discounts and open the Shipping Discounts section.
- Create a rule and choose whether the discount is a percentage or an amount.
- Add the conditions: minimum total, role, products, categories, zone or address.
Rules and shipping rate plugins
For the base rules plugin, look at Discount Rules and Dynamic Pricing for WooCommerce. If you want to define shipping rates by table, there is Table Rate Shipping, and for more elaborate flat rates, Advanced Flat Rate Shipping.
