About Shrewd – Political Responsive WordPress Theme
A campaign has an expiry date, and so does its website
Building a website for a candidate or a political organization usually goes wrong for two reasons: it arrives late, when the event is already on top of you, and afterwards nobody dares touch it when the calendar changes. Shrewd includes a homepage with an event announcement, blocks for team and news, and a call to join.
Interest concentrates in the weeks before a date (an event, a vote, a signature drive) and then cools down. The homepage should put what is happening now at the top, with its day, its time and its button, and leave the rest as an archive.
What is on the Shrewd homepage
The demo brings together the typical blocks of a political website, each with a clear purpose:
- Header with an event notice (place, day and time) and a button to explore.
- DONATE NOW button in the main menu.
- Action-line cards, each with its own Read More link.
- Membership block with sign-up buttons.
- Percentage bars with labels such as Presidency, Secretary or Member, useful for showing track record or results.
- Team section with each person's name and role.
- A message from the organization's chairman next to an upcoming event.
- News and press, and a strip of Instagram posts.
All the demo text is filler (lorem ipsum) and the figures in the bars are examples: you will have to replace them with real data before publishing.
Donations need a separate plugin
The DONATE NOW button in the demo is a menu link. The theme having it does not mean it collects anything. Here is what it covers and what is left for you:
- Already solved: the homepage design, the team, services, author and contact pages, the blog and portfolio layouts, and the visual space for the donate button and membership.
- You will cover it: the payment gateway and donor records (with a donations plugin), member management, emails to supporters, and the real texts, photos and figures of the campaign.
Election advertising and the handling of member and donor data have their own rules in each country: check them before collecting data.
Four homepages and several blog layouts so you do not repeat a template
Shrewd includes four home variants: Home, Home 2, a landing page and one with video. The blog has four layouts (sidebar on the right, on the left, and two two-column versions), and the portfolio is shown as a three- or four-column grid, or with gutters between images. If your communication relies on press releases, pick a blog layout with a sidebar to highlight the latest statement.
Common questions before choosing Shrewd
Can I collect donations with the theme alone?
No. The button exists in the menu, but you need a donations plugin and a payment gateway to receive money.
Is it good for anything other than politics?
The demo's texts and sections are written with politics in mind, so you will have to rewrite them.
What should I change first?
The filler texts, the team names, the percentage bars and the demo's contact details. A sample phone number or email published by mistake does more harm than an unfinished page.
