About Skillate – Tutor LMS WordPress Theme by Themeum
Building an online academy on a generic theme often ends with courses buried in confusing menus, course pages showing buttons that make no sense and a mobile experience that discourages the very people who study on their phones. Skillate is a WordPress theme built to work with Tutor LMS and to put the course, not the website, at the center.
Learners are not sitting at a desk
People who buy an online course usually study in short bursts: on the commute, during a break, from the sofa. That is why what decides whether someone finishes a course is not only the content, but how easy it is to open it again. Skillate includes a dedicated mobile view and a modern navigation menu so students can find their courses without wandering around. The theme also supports RTL layouts, which is useful if your audience reads right to left.
Several instructors, one storefront
The theme is ready to work with multiple instructors. That helps if your academy is not just yours: each teacher has a public profile, and students can have theirs too, with a bio. It is an important detail when what you sell is who teaches.
The Tutor LMS screens the theme takes care of
Skillate redesigns the pages students visit every day, and it shows in concrete parts of the buying and studying flow:
- Course detail page, video player (HTML5 and YouTube), Q&A tab, announcements and file attachments.
- Enrollment, cart and certificate buttons that change depending on the student's status.
- Course reviews, a mark-as-complete button and a course retake button.
- Course list with category and subcategory filters.
- Student registration and Google login.
Having the theme cover these screens saves a lot of CSS tweaking, which is where the hours usually go on a training project.
Without Tutor LMS, Skillate is not an academy
Here is the key gap: Skillate is the visual layer, not the engine. You will have to cover the following yourself.
- Already solved by the theme: design of course pages, profiles, listings, navigation and mobile view.
- Provided by Tutor LMS: creating courses, lessons, quizzes, certificates and the enrollment logic. You need to install it separately.
- By hand or with another plugin: payments and paid memberships depend on the gateway and the commerce or membership plugin you choose.
- With a professional: any deep design change that goes beyond the theme's options.
Some features behave according to Tutor LMS settings (course visibility, content access, strict mode), so it is worth testing a full course from start to finish, as a student and as an instructor, before opening sales.
Frequently asked questions about Skillate
Is it suitable for an academy with a single teacher?
Yes. Being ready for several instructors does not force you to use them, and you can keep a single teacher profile.
Does it work without Tutor LMS?
It makes no sense to use it that way: its design is built around that plugin's pages. Without it you would have a theme with no courses to show.
Does it look good on mobile?
It includes a dedicated mobile view. Check in the demo how the lesson screen and the complete button behave on your own phone.
Can I sell subscriptions with it?
The theme does not handle payments by itself. Sales and memberships are solved with the payment plugin you combine with Tutor LMS.
