A slider that competes with your own message
Putting a slider on the homepage often ends in heavy images, unreadable text on mobile, or a carousel that hides exactly what you wanted to show. Soliloquy Responsive Slider is a plugin for building sliders that adapt to any screen, with unlimited sliders and custom CSS in the base plugin.
One thing is worth keeping in mind: in a slider, every slide fights the others for the same click. So what matters is not the number of effects, but deciding which content rotates (photos, products, posts, PDFs) and which one deserves to go first.

Soliloquy is built from addons, not as a single block
The base plugin focuses on creating responsive sliders, and the extra features arrive as addons that you activate separately:

Check that the addons you need are available in the version you choose, because not all of them come with the base plugin.
It needs self-hosted WordPress and a modern browser
Soliloquy is a WordPress plugin: it does not work on sites that don't use WordPress as their main CMS, nor on the WordPress.com platform. You need a WordPress installation hosted by you. It also requires a modern browser and does not support IE8 or earlier.

Is there a limit on sliders?
No: you can create unlimited sliders.
Does it work with WordPress Multisite?
Yes, both network activated and on individual sites.
Can it be translated?
Yes. It has translation support through the soliloquy textdomain, and the .mo and .po files go in the plugin's languages folder. The same applies to each addon.
Can I use it on WordPress.com?
No. Only on self-hosted WordPress installations.
Test the text on mobile before committing your homepage
Before deciding, check in the demos how titles and buttons behave over the image on a small screen, and whether the type of slider you need resembles what you want to publish. That is what most separates a useful slider from one that just takes up space.
