The builder in the package may not be the one your demo uses
A theme with more than 140 complete sites gets chosen by looking at demos, and the first impulse is to find the prettiest one. With Stockholm there is an earlier question: which builder you will work with for the coming years.
The package includes WPBakery, but many of the demos on its page are built with Elementor. The theme supports both, so nothing stops you from starting with either; what you need to know is that a page made with one builder does not move to the other on its own. If you import an Elementor demo and then want to edit with the tool that came in the package, those pages will still be Elementor pages.
Check the builder on the demo you like, decide and stick with it. The rest of the choice gets a lot simpler.
A single base for very different businesses
Stockholm, by Select Themes, covers companies, restaurants, hotels, shops, law firms, weddings, blogs, portfolios and one-page sites. These are the pieces that do the work:
- Restaurant: a content type for the menu and a menu list shortcode.
- Shop: WooCommerce integration with product list and product carousel shortcodes.
- Accounts: user login and a user dashboard template.
- Schedules: Timetable Responsive Schedule included.
- Portfolio: masonry, gallery, slider, carousel and horizontally scrolling list.
- Blog: masonry, centered, chequered, large image and Pinterest styles, with gallery, video, audio, quote and link formats.
Headers, transitions and the rest of the storefront
- Headers fixed or sticky, with the menu on the left, on the right or centered, and a separate logo for the sticky version.
- Menus: mega menu, side menu, fullscreen and sticky content menu.
- More than 50 custom shortcodes, with interactive images, infographics and a video box.
- Effects: parallax sections, video backgrounds and AJAX page transitions with four animations.
- Typography and icons: more than 800 Google Fonts, plus Font Awesome, Linear Icons and Font Elegant.
- Sliders: LayerSlider and Slider Revolution included.
- Footer with one to four columns, regular or unfolding.
Three things to discount from the demos
Combining two demos takes work. The known route is to import each one on a separate WordPress installation and copy the pages from one to the other. Try the importer first and pick one as your base.
The images are for presentation. The demo images only serve to show the design, so set aside time to replace them with your own photos.
The social feeds no longer come with it. Select Instagram Feed and Select Twitter Feed were removed because of changes in those APIs. Do not expect a booking engine either: its features for hotels and restaurants do not include one.
Choose, import and customize
To sell you need WooCommerce, and for an Elementor demo, that builder installed as a separate plugin. The order we recommend is this:
- Decide on the builder by looking at the demo you are interested in.
- Install Stockholm and its child theme, and activate the child to keep your code changes there.
- Install the builder and the plugins you plan to use.
- Import the demo with one click on a clean installation.
- Replace images and text, and deactivate the plugins you do not use.
Multi-concept themes that build differently
Hub has more than a hundred prebuilt sites, and its builder, Elementor or WPBakery, is chosen in the wizard, with separate documentation for each. Avada takes another route: it brings its own builder, and what you build with it does not carry over to another theme.
If you stay with Stockholm and Elementor, Qi Addons adds more than a hundred widgets and is compatible with the theme.
Elementor, shop, photos and languages in Stockholm
Is Elementor included?
It is not among the included plugins, which are WPBakery, LayerSlider, Slider Revolution and Timetable. It is installed separately.
Can I use WPBakery even if the demo is built with Elementor?
The theme supports both, but that demo is edited with Elementor. For WPBakery, you would have to build those pages yourself.
Does it work for a shop?
Yes, with WooCommerce. It is a multi-concept theme, so the shop is one of its pieces.
Can I use the demo photos?
No. They are for presentation only and you need to use your own.
Does it work for a multilingual site?
Yes. It is translated with .po and .mo files and is compatible with WPML.
Can I show my Instagram?
Not with the theme alone: its feed plugin was removed. You will need a separate solution.
