About SUMO Affiliates Pro

An affiliate program that pays people who don't sell your product

Setting up an affiliate program often starts with a spreadsheet, hand-built links with parameters and payouts calculated by eye at the end of the month. Once twenty affiliates join, nobody knows for sure who brought in whom, what commission is due or whether a customer came through two different links.

What almost nobody tells you before launching a program: the hard part isn't recruiting affiliates, it's the attribution and payout rules. If you don't decide in advance who gets paid when a customer uses two links, or what happens when a customer buys again a year later, you'll end up arguing with your own affiliates. SUMO Affiliates Pro forces you to make those decisions and gives you the settings to apply them.

What SUMO Affiliates Pro can reward besides a sale

  • WooCommerce purchases: commission per product bought, with a product-specific rate at the affiliate level and restrictions by product or category.
  • Forms: commission for submissions made with Contact Form 7, Formidable Forms or WP Forms.
  • Email subscriptions: commission for sign-ups in MailChimp or ActiveCampaign.
  • Registrations: commission for an affiliate sign-up and for a new account registration.
  • Page visits: commission for accessing posts or pages that carry the landing commission shortcode.

You can also use WooCommerce coupons linked to an affiliate: if the referred customer redeems that coupon, the affiliate gets paid.

Three situations, three ways to use it

A WooCommerce store that wants to sell more without paying for ads

This is the natural use. You can give lifetime commission on each referral's purchases, or cut it off once the customer exceeds a number of orders, a total spend or an amount per order. There is also a maximum commission per action, useful so that one huge order doesn't eat your margin.

A lead or subscriber generation site

If your business runs on contact forms or mailing lists, you can pay for each submission or subscription instead of for sales.

A business that wants its affiliates to recruit other affiliates

It includes a multi-level system: you define how many direct referrals are needed, how many levels pay and what percentage each level gets. Think it through carefully: the more levels, the harder the program is to explain and the easier it is for it to look like a pyramid scheme.

What each affiliate will see and be able to do

Each affiliate has their own dashboard, to which you can add unlimited tabs for your materials or instructions. They can generate unlimited links, download a QR code for each link as an image and limit a link to the product it was created for. If you allow it, they can customize their slug and get readable links.

Applications are approved automatically or after review, and the same goes for referrals.

Payouts, tracking and notifications

Separate tables record visits, conversions and referral actions, so you can see which links bring traffic and which convert. Payments are handled with PayPal Payouts or bank transfer. Activity notifications can arrive by email and by SMS.

You can identify the affiliate by ID or by name, adjust how long a link stays valid and let the customer choose an affiliate at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work without WooCommerce?

Yes for forms, subscriptions, registrations and page visits. Commissions for product purchases and coupons depend on WooCommerce.

How are affiliates paid?

With PayPal Payouts or bank transfer. There are no other methods.

What happens if the customer uses two links?

You choose whether the commission goes to the first affiliate or the most recent one.

It needs external plugins for forms and subscriptions

Form commissions only cover Contact Form 7, Formidable Forms and WP Forms, and subscription commissions only MailChimp and ActiveCampaign. If you use a different form or email service, check in the demo whether there is a way to connect it before counting on it.
