About Thrive Leads

Your blog covers several topics and your form speaks to only one

You write about wedding photography, editing and gear. Under every article sits the same invitation: download the pricing guide for photographers. Someone who came looking for a lens gets little from that guide. Your average sign-up rate looks acceptable, and that average hides which topics respond and which ignore the offer.

A list grows by topic: each group of readers signs up for something different, and a single offer only speaks well to one of them. Thrive Leads is a WordPress plugin for creating opt-in forms and deciding which content each one appears on, which is why it is worth thinking of it as a way of allocating offers before thinking of it as a popup editor.

Four systems, and only one wins on each page

The plugin brings together four ways of putting a form in front of a reader:

  • Lead Groups: containers with one or more forms that share conditions. The plugin inserts them automatically where you say.
  • Lead Shortcodes: you place the form by hand, anywhere that accepts a shortcode. You must add it to every page where you want it.
  • ThriveBoxes: lightboxes that open when a button or link is clicked, without appearing on their own. They suit a two-step opt-in.
  • Signup Segue: an existing subscriber joins a new offer with one click, without typing their email again.

Inside a group, the templates cover formats such as Popup, Ribbon, Slide In, Scroll Mat, Fullscreen, In-Content and Widget. Group conditions include or exclude content by posts, pages or categories.

One rule shapes your plan: if several groups match a page, Thrive Leads shows only the one with the highest priority. An article with two categories will get a single campaign, so order the priority list with those overlaps in mind.

An A/B test that can close itself

Inside a Lead Group with at least two published forms you can run two kinds of comparison: two designs of the same format, or two different formats, such as a Ribbon against an In-Content form.

The Auto Winner option is optional and asks for three values: minimum conversions, minimum test days and the required chance of beating the original. If you leave it off, the test continues until you choose a winner. A form already in a running test cannot join another one.

The reports show form performance over time and where traffic comes from. Use them to check whether each offer found its reader.

Your list lives in the email service

Thrive Leads captures the contact, but to save those contacts you generally need to connect your forms to an external service. That connection is made by API, the recommended route, or with the form's HTML code. Newsletter sending is not among its features: welcome sequences are set up on your email platform.

Your first campaign by category

It is a WordPress plugin. You need an account with an email service and at least two different offers if you want to allocate them by topic. This sequence combines plugin features, so it is worth testing with your own content:

  1. Connect your email service by API.
  2. Create one Lead Group per topic, with the matching category in its conditions.
  3. Choose a format in Templates and edit the design in the Design tab, which embeds the Thrive Architect editor.
  4. Order the group priorities and check a post with two categories.
  5. Publish a second form in the busiest group and launch the test.

Convert Plus and Hustle as points of comparison

Convert Plus revolves around when each module appears, with exit intent, scroll and inactivity, and it separates design from behavior and from data collection. Look at it if your main question is timing. Hustle, from WPMU DEV, is another option in this category in the catalog.

When you put the offers to work

Can I hide forms from people already subscribed?

Yes, with SmartLinks, which can also show those people different content.

Do the forms adapt to mobile?

Yes. There are responsive forms and a mobile-specific lightbox.

Can I use a shortcode and an A/B test together?

Tests are organized inside Lead Groups. If comparison is your priority, start from a group.
