About User Registration File Uploads Addon
Who asks for documents at sign-up, and who only needs an avatar
Asking for a résumé, a certificate or a photo by email ends up in full inboxes, lost attachments and every file with a different name. This addon is for those who need the file to arrive inside the registration itself: a job board, an academy that validates qualifications, a community that asks for an internal identification document. It is not for those who only want a simple profile photo, or who are looking for a full document manager.
There is one important limit: it is an add-on for User Registration Pro and does not work on its own. Without that plugin installed you have nowhere to place the field.
An upload field inside the registration form
User Registration File Uploads Addon adds a field to the form builder so that people can attach their file while signing up. You can put several fields in the same form: one for the résumé, another for a letter, another for an image. This way each document arrives identified for what it is, instead of one catch-all drawer.
Controlling what gets in: file types and size
What really saves you trouble is setting rules. In each field you choose which formats are accepted and what the maximum size is. The possible formats include csv, ppt, xls, xlsx, mp3 and m4v.
- For size, adjust the maximum to your hosting: if you don't set it, the server limit is used.
Validation also happens on the server, not just in the browser, so a disallowed file doesn't slip through by bypassing the interface.
What happens to the files after sign-up
Files are stored in their own folder. If the person removes a file or their user is deleted, the file is removed from the directory. If they never complete the registration, whatever was uploaded is also removed. From the admin you can see each user's files.
Users can change their files from profile editing, and an administrator can do so when editing another person's profile.
What to check before asking for documents
If you ask for personal documents, think about what you ask for and why: a résumé or an identity document is personal data and data protection regulations may apply to you. Also check in the demo how the field looks in your form if you use WooCommerce or Elementor popups, since the addon has had adjustments in those environments.
