An open form lets in people you never meant to invite
Leaving registration open means anyone who finds the link can sign up: bots, the merely curious, former customers who should no longer have access. If your community, course or private area depends on only the people you chose getting in, a public form is a door with no lock. User Registration Invite Codes Addon adds an invitation code field to the form: without a code you generated, the sign-up is blocked.
Codes that behave the way you need
What makes the addon useful is that each code can have its own rules, so it is not a single all-or-nothing switch:
- Limited use: you can give a code to one person or share the same one with a group, and set how many times it is valid.
- Expiry date: a code can work for a single day, for example around a launch event, or stay open indefinitely.
- Role per code: each code can override the form's default role. With one form you register subscribers, contributors or any custom role you have created, depending on the code entered.
- Unlimited and bulk codes: there is no cap on codes, and you can create hundreds at once with a common prefix.
Knowing who got in with which code
Each user's registration record shows the code they used, and you can check it from the users dashboard. You can also export codes to JSON or CSV, or import a ready-made list into any registration form. The messages shown to someone who enters an invalid, expired or used-up code are written by you in the registration and login settings, so you can explain what to do instead of leaving the user facing a bare error.

It is an add-on, not a standalone plugin: it needs the User Registration & Membership plugin, and the field is added with its drag-and-drop form builder. The developer offers it in its Professional and Plus plans, so check that your version of the base plugin includes it. Nor is it an email invitation system: it generates and controls codes, but sending each code to each person is up to you.
Does WordPress include invitation codes by default?
No. The standard WordPress form has no such option; this addon provides it.
Can someone register without a code?
No. Once the field is added, the form stops accepting sign-ups without a valid code.
Can I give different roles depending on the code?
Yes, each code can assign a role different from the form's default.
What happens with an expired or used-up code?
The sign-up is blocked and the message you set for that case is shown.
Does it work with forms I already have?
Yes, you can add the field to any form created with the base plugin's builder.
