About User Switching for WooCommerce
For people who take phone orders, not for those who just want to peek at a customer dashboard
When a customer calls to place an order, or says something "isn't working" in their account, the usual routine is to ask for screenshots, guess what they see and create the order by hand from the admin. User Switching for WooCommerce is built for that buyer: a store with phone support or customers who ask for help, and that benefits from entering the person's account and working from their side.
It is not for you if you want to create a test login, manage advanced permissions or audit what each employee does. Nor does it replace an invoicing system: it only places you in the customer's account to prepare the order.
Switch accounts from the store, without going through the admin
Once activated, if you are logged in with one of the roles you define in the settings, a tool appears in the top left corner of the front end. From there you search for the user you want to switch to and start acting as them in the store.
While you are in another account, a text reminds you that you are logged in as another user. To return to your original account, just click the log out link.
Phone orders with User Switching for WooCommerce
You can add a product to the cart and create the order in their name. It is useful if you take orders by phone and then invoice the customer manually in a separate invoicing system.
A security limit worth understanding
Only users able to edit other users can switch accounts, and only to accounts with equal or lower capabilities. A store manager, for example, cannot jump into an administrator's account.
The switch uses the WordPress cookie authentication system and nonces, so only someone who actually intends to switch users can run the action.
Since you enter real customer accounts, define carefully which roles see the tool and who on the team needs it. If you store personal data, consider who should have access to it.
What your installation needs
It is a WooCommerce plugin, so it does not work without it. In the demo, check that the front-end bar displays properly with your theme.
Frequently asked questions before installing
Can a manager enter an administrator's account?
No. You can only switch to users with the same or lower capabilities.
Is it useful for creating orders in the customer's name?
Yes: you switch to their account, add products to the cart and place the order as if you were them.
Where does the tool appear?
In the top left corner of the front end, for the roles you choose in the settings.
How do I get back to my account?
With the log out link that appears while you act as another user.
Does it issue invoices?
No. If you invoice separately, you prepare the order here and the invoice stays in your system.
