About Visual Portfolio Pro

A portfolio is not a gallery

A gallery is a pile of nice photographs. A portfolio has structure: projects, each with its images, grouped by type of work or by client, and navigable like a catalogue of what you can do. That difference is what decides whether your site wins commissions or merely gets looked at.

Visual Portfolio is built for the second, and there lies what sets it apart from an ordinary gallery plugin.

The layouts

  • Six formats: masonry, justified, tiles, grid, slider and carousel, each with control over gutters, aspect ratio and the image's focal point.
  • Filtering by category or tag and sorting by date, title or manually.
  • A high-performance lightbox, with touch gestures and keyboard navigation.
  • Video and audio, from the usual platforms, mixed in with the photographs.

It is inserted as a block in the WordPress editor, with live preview, and also as an Elementor widget or a WPBakery shortcode.

What the paid version adds, and why it matters

Nested albums and taxonomy grids. This is the structure we were talking about: a page showing your types of work, each opening its own collection of projects. It is the difference between a wall of images and a navigable portfolio.

Watermarking and password protection. For showing work without giving it away, and for collections only one client should see.

Client proofing. Letting the client mark and comment on images, which turns this into a working tool rather than only a shop window.

Deep linking, so a specific image can be shared with its own address.

A note on the proofing side

If you are a photographer and your workflow revolves around the client choosing photographs, worth comparing against the tools dedicated to that: they usually carry selection goals, gallery expiry and multiple clients on the same collection. Here proofing is one feature among many inside a portfolio plugin, not its reason for existing. If instead selection is something you do occasionally, having it built in avoids installing something else.
