About Viva Themes Soho WordPress Theme

A creative studio is judged on the first screen

If you run a studio, a photography portfolio or a small creative agency, you know the problem: a theme with too much noise hides your work and one that is too bland says nothing. Besides, people who land on your site don't read, they look. If the homepage doesn't make clear at a glance what you do and how you do it, the rest of the site barely gets visited.

Soho is a creative, minimal theme designed for creative companies and independent professionals. It leaves room for content and puts the visual weight on the homepage background, which is exactly where visitors decide whether to stay or leave.

Homepage with video or slideshow, and the limits of Soho

These are the pieces that matter most when choosing it:

  • Homepage background: a YouTube video or a full-screen image slideshow on the front page.
  • Four homepage layouts: blog, portfolio, static page or a content-free homepage with just a full-width video or slideshow.
  • Per-page background: each page or post can have its own background image through the featured image.
  • Portfolio: a dedicated template for artwork, products or photography, and several separate portfolios thanks to project types.
  • Social media: a links menu with 28 icons.
  • The basics of a business site: multi-level menu, left sidebar with widgets, blog pagination, threaded comments, a 404 page and a layout that adapts to desktop, tablet and mobile.

Now, what you should know before deciding. The background video is embedded from YouTube, so your video must be published there. A full-screen video can feel heavy on mobile: check how it behaves in the demo. The sidebar is on the left. Soho styles Contact Form 7 forms, but that plugin is installed separately. And it is a theme for showing work, not a store: if you need a cart and payments, you will have to add an ecommerce plugin and check how it fits the design.

Common questions about Soho

Can I use my own video on the homepage?

Yes, as long as you upload it to YouTube, because the theme embeds it from there. If you'd rather not use video, you can choose an image slideshow.

Does it work for a blog too?

Yes. One of the four homepages is a blog, and the theme includes pagination and threaded comments.

Can I have more than one portfolio?

Yes, with project types you can separate, for example, photography from design or product work, each with its own listing.

Can it be translated into my language?

It is translation ready and includes a .pot file, but you will have to do the translation yourself.

A block editor that looks like your site

Soho supports Gutenberg blocks, so you can give each page or post a different layout without touching code. The editor styles reproduce the look of the public side, so what you build in the dashboard resembles what visitors will see.

The child theme is created with a single click

If you are going to tweak Soho's code or styles, do it in a child theme so you don't lose your changes. The theme creates and activates one with a click. To get the site ready, it helps to follow this order:

  • Upload your logo and favicon.
  • Choose which of the four homepages fits your business.
  • Prepare the featured images for each page, because the backgrounds come from them.
