About WooCommerce Ajax Layered Navigation
Every page reload is a reason to leave
Shoppers who filter by size, color or brand in a store with hundreds of products already know what they want, and they are the closest to buying. If every click on a filter reloads the whole page and returns a list of text links, they get tired before reaching the product.
In a large catalog, the filters are the real shop window. Few customers browse categories page by page; they come in, filter and decide based on what they see on screen. If the filter is clumsy, the store feels small even if you have a thousand products.
WooCommerce Ajax Layered Navigation: filters that update on their own
The plugin updates the results through Ajax every time the customer changes a filter, without reloading the page. It also replaces text links with visual elements:
- Color swatches for visual attributes such as color.
- Size selectors for sizes.
- Checkboxes to select options.
- Traditional link filters, in case you prefer to keep them for some attribute.
You can mix the types depending on the attribute. And attribute links are preserved, so products remain indexable by search engines.
Well-built attributes are still your job
The plugin does not replace the WooCommerce attribute system: it works on the attributes you already have. That is both an advantage and a warning.
- The plugin handles: updating results without reloading, showing attributes as swatches, selectors or checkboxes, and keeping attribute links.
- You handle: creating and organizing the attributes, and keeping their values consistent. If «Navy blue» and «blue» are two separate options, any filter gets messy.
- You handle: assigning the attributes to each product. Products without them will not show up properly in the filters.
- You check: speed. Use a performance tool to see whether the plugin scripts load on pages where they are not needed, with your theme and your hosting.
Stores where it shows and stores where it is overkill
It shows in fashion, electronics, home and furniture, sporting goods or any store with variable products and many attributes: filtering by size, color and style, by brand or features, or by materials, finishes and dimensions.
If you sell fifteen products with a single attribute, an advanced filter adds scripts without contributing much. It fits best when you already have variations and the catalog is growing. Check in the demo how the filters look on mobile.
