About WooCommerce Attribute Stock
When your store's stock doesn't fit in one box per product
WooCommerce keeps one quantity per product or variation and little else. That works until you sell tea in 100 g and 500 g bags that come out of the same sack, T-shirts in several models that share the same cut fabric, or a pack that should deduct three loose units. Then you end up correcting stock by hand or selling what you no longer have.
The uncomfortable truth for anyone selling by weight, by measure or by combination is that real inventory rarely matches the product the customer sees: what exists is a material, a part or an ingredient, and products are just ways of selling it. WooCommerce Attribute Stock starts from that idea and lets you manage the stock of the material, not that of each listing.
Shared stock and multipliers: how WooCommerce Attribute Stock deducts
The plugin works with two tools that you can use separately or together:
- Stock multipliers: you set the total stock at product level and assign to each variation or attribute term how much a purchase deducts. If you sell tea in packs of different weights, each pack subtracts its amount from the total.
- Rule-based stock items: you create a stock item and assign it to the products or variations you want using match rules and product filters. Several products can then share the same stock.
With multiple attributes, such as sizes and colors, the rules let you match any combination across any number of products. There is also component stock, for items made from other stock items, and "any" variations, which save you from defining every combination of options one by one.
The case of a discounted pack alongside its individual products is solved by assigning the same stock item to all of them: sales of one reduce the availability of the others and overselling is avoided.
Day-to-day management: dashboard, spreadsheets and connections to other systems
Stock items have their own admin dashboard, where you can set SKUs, images and product filters. If your inventory lives in a spreadsheet, you can export it to CSV, edit or add quantities and import it back.
To connect it with external software it includes a WooCommerce REST API endpoint and webhooks. Developers will also find actions and filters to adjust behavior that isn't configurable out of the box.
Plugins it is said to get along well with include Variation Swatches, point-of-sale systems, subscriptions, Product Bundles, waitlists, Cart Stock Reducer, WP-Lister, WPML and Polylang.
Decide whether it fits: common questions and limits
It is a piece for stores with shared inventory or variable quantities. If each product has its own independent stock, native WooCommerce stock control is enough and this plugin is unnecessary. It also does not support WordPress Multisite or synchronization between several stores, and that is not planned.
Does it work for selling by weight or by measure?
Yes, it is one of the core uses: with a multiplier per variation or attribute term, each purchase deducts the right amount from the total.
Can I share stock between different products?
Yes, through stock items with rules that are assigned to the products or variations you choose.
Do I have to create every attribute combination?
Not necessarily: "any" variations let you track stock without specifying every combination.
Can I load inventory from a spreadsheet?
Yes, with CSV export and import of stock items.
Does it work with several synchronized stores?
No. Neither Multisite nor synchronization between stores is supported.
