About WooCommerce Drip

Your store knows who bought, but your email tool does not

You have a mailing list in Drip and a store in WooCommerce, and each lives on its own. Drip knows who opened an email, but not who ended up buying; WooCommerce knows who paid, but not which campaign they responded to. Without that bridge you end up sending the same offer to someone who already bought and failing to reward the people who spend the most.

WooCommerce Drip connects both sides: every order in the store leaves a trace in the subscriber's Drip account.

What WooCommerce Drip records when a sale closes

On every sale, the plugin updates the subscriber's record in Drip. This is what it logs:

  • Sale event in the subscriber's history.
  • Conversion goal, optionally, to measure which campaigns end in a purchase.
  • Lifetime value: it builds up across all orders, not just the latest, so you see how much each customer has generated in total.
  • Subscriber name, taken from the one entered at checkout.
  • Customer tag, to separate people who bought from people who only signed up.
  • Purchased products, useful for segmenting sends to people who own a specific product.

With that data you can build automations in Drip: a win-back campaign or a send only to people who bought a certain item. You can even sell Drip campaigns with this method.

The subscribe checkbox at checkout and registration

The plugin adds an optional "Subscribe to the campaign" checkbox. You can enable it on the checkout form, the account registration form or both, choose the Drip campaign it points to and change the text next to it. If you send marketing to customers in the EU or other countries with strict rules, word the checkbox text carefully and review your consent obligations.

What it needs and what it does not do

It is a connector, not an email tool: you need your own Drip account, where campaigns, emails and workflows are created. The plugin sends the data and provides the checkbox; message design and automations are done in Drip. It also does not offer its own reporting dashboards inside WordPress: conversion and per-customer value figures are checked in Drip. It is compatible with WooCommerce high performance order storage (HPOS). It is extensible by developers and ready for translation.

Common questions before connecting it

What data goes to Drip?

Conversions, revenue, the subscriber's lifetime value, purchased products, the customer's name and the customer tag.

Can I offer the subscription only at checkout?

Yes. You can enable the checkbox at checkout, at registration or at both, and link it to the campaign you choose.

Is it useful for segmenting and automating?

Yes. Events, tags and purchased products can be used to launch workflows, win-back campaigns and targeted broadcasts.

Do I need to know how to code?

Not for the basics: it is very easy to use. The developer side is optional.

Create the campaign in Drip first, then the checkbox in the store

Before enabling the checkbox, create in Drip the campaign buyers will be subscribed to; otherwise you will have nothing to choose from. Then connect the account, decide whether you want the conversion goal and place a test order to check that the event, the customer tag and the products appear in the subscriber's record. That test saves you from discovering weeks later that your segments were empty.
