The best thing you can do with card data is not touch it
Any shop collecting card numbers in its own forms falls within the full scope of the payment industry's security standards, with everything that implies in audits, controls and liability if something leaks. It is a burden almost no small retailer can carry well.
This gateway does the opposite: payment happens on a page hosted by Global Payments, and the card data never passes through your server.
How it integrates
Two ways, and the choice matters. The form can be shown inside a frame on your own checkout page, so the customer does not perceive the jump, or you can do a full redirect to the Global Payments server.
The frame better preserves the feeling of being in your shop, which usually shows in conversion. The redirect is simpler and has fewer things that can break on older phones. The page supports more than thirty languages and adapts to the device.
What it brings for day-to-day work
- Refunds from WooCommerce, full or partial, without entering the bank's panel.
- Automatic void when the transaction has not yet settled, instead of a refund.
- Capturing authorisations, to charge when the order ships rather than when it is placed.
- Fraud controls: security code verification, address checking and a set of risk rules.
- Strong authentication, with 3D Secure including the American Express scheme.
What is needed first
A merchant account with Global Payments. And that is not signing up on a website: it is contracting with a processor, with its risk assessment, its paperwork and its negotiated terms. It does not get sorted in an afternoon.
That is the underlying difference from instant-signup gateways: here the relationship is direct with the processor, which usually means better rates at volume, in exchange for slower onboarding. For a shop starting out with low sales, an instant-signup gateway is live sooner. For one with steady turnover, the direct account works out better.
